Product Description

Product Description

Practiced by such actors of stature as Marlon Brando, Robert De Niro, Julie Harris, Dustin Hoffman, and Ellen Burstyn (not to mention the late James Dean) the Method offers a practical application of the renowned Stanislavsky technique.

On Method Acting demystifies the "mysteries" of Method acting -- breaking down the various steps into clear and simple terms, including chapters on:

Sense Memory -- the most vital component of Method acting

Improvisation -- without it, the most integral part of the Method is lost

Animal Exercises -- just one way to combat the mental blocks that prevent actors from grasping a character

Creating The Outer Character -- so actors can give the freshness of originality to a role while at the same time living the life of the character

On Method Acting is also an indispensable volume for directors, designers, lighting technicians, and anyone in the dramatic arts interested in creating a believable and realistic effect in their productions.

Ingram

Practiced by Marlon Brando, Dustin Hoffman, and the late James Dean, the Method is one of the least understood acting techniques. This volume offers a practical application of the famed Stanislavsky teachings with chapters on sense memory, improvisation, and creating character. Previously published by House of Collectibles.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2 thumbs up!, Aug 8 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: On Method Acting (Mass Market Paperback)
This book has taught me how to be a method actor. Until I read this book I was strugglling with my acting, I could never really find the charactor. But with this book I was able to analize a charactor successfully. And as a result I have improved my acting skills and gotten larger and better parts in plays. I highly recomend this book if you're struggling with your acting or if you are just staarting to explore the world of acting. It's a great place to start.

I have read book twice. It looks small book such as booklet at the beginning but includes really deep information about method acting.
I highly recommend everybody interested in method acting.

5.0 out of 5 stars The definitive book "On Method Acting"!, Jan 12 2009
By Jill Place "The Acting Intuitive" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: On Method Acting (Mass Market Paperback)
As a past student and employee of Lee Strasberg and a Method acting coach myself for over 30 years, this is the one book I always recommend to my students. Y'know how the explanations in some books are so simple and clear that you continually have "A-HA!" moments when you read them? This is one of those books. Of course, you need to work with a good coach who knows their stuff and can give to learned feedback to really internalize any acting technique. That's one of the reasons that Lee was such a great teacher. But, as a Method text, this is tops!
