Simply put, this is a charming book.

Anyone who has ever been a pet parent knows that their furry children have quirks and eccentricities, and Toby was no exception. I sympathized with both Charmaine & her husband, and Toby, because you know he couldn't be happy with all that inner anxiety. Of course, as a reader, I knew they were going to keep Toby but as a person, I really applaud their decision. It would have been so easy to give up and I'm so glad they didn't.

This is the kind of book you read when you need a pick-me-up, and a reminder that sometimes the very best experiences in life come wrapped in hard-work packages.

I just loved reading the heartwarming stories about Toby and his adventures. This book was easy to read, fun, made me laugh and made me so appreciate Toby's owners Chris and Charmaine for their strength, love and compassion for a beautiful pet who became such a part of their family. I had the pleasure of staying at Toby's home and I can tell you first hand he is an amazing dog who is more than entertaining. This book is a good curl up on the coach read. I put this book in the bathroom to read in short segments (you know what I mean). I started reading "On Toby's Terms" and couldn't put it down, so I ended up on the couch and stayed up way too late reading it.

A touching story that made me laugh and cry and miss terribly my own dog who went o doggy heaven last year.

"What a read! This book isn't just about a dog - it's much more than that! It's about perseverance, love and commitment. Charmaine has written the book with such emotion it's very easy to feel and see the situations and experiences she and Chris endured with Toby. Toby is one unique pooch - and his passion and purpose came to life because of the love and belief that was bestowed upon him. Toby takes his owners on some journey on his way to fulfilling his life's mission - through giggles and tears - and he taught them what it means to live life on your own terms. Thanks for the entertaining and educational book and for the lessons on patience, tolerance and acceptance!"

Highly recommended!

I so enjoyed this book. I have never had a dog in my life but I do have a large family with four children. Reading this book connected me with the love of a dog and their family in the same way that I love my family. It opened my heart. The story was charming and endearing with the same amount of mischief that I'm familiar with as a mom. You can share this book with anyone and they'll love it. I've given this book as a gift to many many of my friends and colleagues.

Charmaine Hammond is a Saint! You'll see why when you read this book and the incredible duress she and her husband Chris had to endure through their dog Toby. The way they persevered is both incredible and heart-warming, and the Life Lessons they learned in the process are ones everyone should know and cherish to reach their Full Life Potential. This is not just a story about a dog...it's a tail (I mean "tale"...sorry I couldn't resist ;) of LOVE, Compassion, Heartbreak, Joy, Renewal, and Purpose. Whether you're a pet-lover or not, you'll be moved by the author's mastery of story-telling and you'll come to love Toby just as much as Charmaine and Chris did. I don't even own a dog, and I couldn't put this book down. Get a copy for yourself and any one you love.

If you like the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, this is Chicken Soup on steroids.

This family has shown us that patience, love, humour, devotion and insight are so important in any kind of relationship. I admire the frank and open manner in which Charmaine portrays their relationship -and their love shines throughout the book. It is obvious that Toby is devoted to Charmaine and Christopher even though he had to go to Doggy Boot Camp! The extremely traumatic sailboat accident was a turning point in their lives, but with such a happy ending. Toby, (with Christopher and Charmaine of course) has touched so many lives in many different ways. His relationship with Lauren is so beautiful. How many lives has Toby enriched at the hospital? Kudos to Charmaine for giving of her precious time - actually I think she gets more out of this than she realizes! Thanks for the joy, tears, laughter and insights!

On Toby's Terms is a lovely story about a crazy rescue dog, Toby, after he was adopted by the Hammonds. Toby reminds me so much of my two Labrador puppies who are going through their destructive stage that I couldn't help but identify with the issues Charmaine was having and admire her patience and tolerance.

When Toby becomes a therapy animal it is heartwarming how many people's lives he touches and it becomes Toby teaching Charmaine lessons of life rather than the other way around.

Despite the current antics of my puppies, it was a great reminder for me of why I love them so much. So, if you're a fan of animal stories you should read On Toby's Terms.

I look forward to watching the movie and hopefully reading more books on Toby's antics.
