Once Upon the Cross is possibly Deicide's best record. I'm not much into satanism or anti-christianity, I just like the sound of their brutal death metal. The guitars, drums and vocals are all really awesome. This album contains one of their best tracks too, called "When Satan Rules His World". If you're not too offended by all the anti-jesus lyrics, check out this masterpiece of relentless death metal brutality.

This is one of my favorite albums in my Deicide collection. I brought this in the spring of 1995. I had already become a major Deicide fan the year before when I bought the first album, Legion and Amon - Feasting The Beast. I first found out about the release of this album by reading a bad review on a local underground magazie here in Florida called JAM Magazine. I can't remember the whole review but it ended by saying "Deicide is more silly than sinister here." That dissapointed me. In being a Deicide fan, I knew they could never put out an album that sucks. So I bought the album that same day along with Brutality's Screams Of Anguish all on cassette and the album didn't dissapoint me at all. As a matter of fact, it totally ripped.
Now for my review. This is one of the most sinister albums in the Deicide album catalog. It has everything that any Deicide fan could ever ask for. Every single song here is killer, heavy, brutal, sinister, aggressive, hellish, satanic and evil. There are plent of solos, brutal riffs and blast beats but everything is just hellbent aggression and totally destined to scare Christians to death. I mean this album delivers. Some of my favorite songs here are Christ Denied, When Satan Rules His World, Kill The Chrstian, They Are The Children Of The Underworld, Behind The Light Thou Shell Rise and To Be Dead. But this album or be crucified.

This is the most foccused deicide album completely brutal and brillant there albums since this have sucked so bad i think they have lost the plot and its only on the backing of this album that i have continued to listen to there albums.. Glen (Satans little Helper) voice on this album is class on the new album his voice is so ridicilously crap i cant explain why he couldnt have stayed as foccused with the guitars and vocals ill never know

Well if you think scars of crucifix was deicide's best album think again because it wasnt! Once upon the cross is by far their most brutal album todate! All the songs, sound well produced, and the vocal is pretty clean... I must say. To you all dont wait just go and buy it if you dont own it already!! Well, even tho slayer has been making satanic music longer then deicide it doesnt mean their better, nope! Deicide makes slayer look like backstreetboys! To me slayer is a terrible band with an awfull vocalist! Support deicide and leave slayer alone! Laters

This is raw, hard core, stuff man, I get a rush justing listening to it. Glen with his demonic voice. Deicide put out the sound that these newer bands wanted and copied....Powerful stuff here, not for the weak hearted

I cant believe how aggressive and heavy this album is.The guitar work is really good and bentons vocals are very heavy. The detuned guitars make this release unforgetable and the production is also good.Deicide fans should already own this because this is one of their best.

With better production, fast paced songs, and a whole new batch of Christian onslaughts, Once Upon the Cross proves to be a good Deicide album. My only real complaint is how boring this album can get after listening to it far too much.
Songs to check out: Once Upon the Cross, When Satan Rules This World, Kill The Christian, Trick or Betrayed.
