5.0 out of 5 stars 100& Evil, Brutal, Crucifying, Sinister Death Metal April 22 2004
Format:Audio CD
This is one of my favorite albums in my Deicide collection. I brought this in the spring of 1995. I had already become a major Deicide fan the year before when I bought the first album, Legion and Amon - Feasting The Beast. I first found out about the release of this album by reading a bad review on a local underground magazie here in Florida called JAM Magazine. I can't remember the whole review but it ended by saying "Deicide is more silly than sinister here." That dissapointed me. In being a Deicide fan, I knew they could never put out an album that sucks. So I bought the album that same day along with Brutality's Screams Of Anguish all on cassette and the album didn't dissapoint me at all. As a matter of fact, it totally ripped.
Now for my review. This is one of the most sinister albums in the Deicide album catalog. It has everything that any Deicide fan could ever ask for. Every single song here is killer, heavy, brutal, sinister, aggressive, hellish, satanic and evil. There are plent of solos, brutal riffs and blast beats but everything is just hellbent aggression and totally destined to scare Christians to death. I mean this album delivers. Some of my favorite songs here are Christ Denied, When Satan Rules His World, Kill The Chrstian, They Are The Children Of The Underworld, Behind The Light Thou Shell Rise and To Be Dead. But this album or be crucified.

1.0 out of 5 stars Complete garbage! April 6 2003
Format:Audio CD
It's actually zero stars. This is the worst death metal album in history, and I love death metal! The songs are a bunch of crunchy guitars and annoying screaming without any of the technicality of Suffocation or Pyaemia, without any of the raw emotion of In Flames of At the Gates, or any of the sophistication of Opeth or Meshuggah. Just a a whole lot of disoriented cacophony. As to the lyrics: I respect a person's right to criticize God and Christianity (I do that myself when people try to convert me), but lyrics should be at least poetic, and singing about pooping on the Bible is the antithesis of good poetry. And the artwork! First of all, even ignoring, the religious connotations thereof, It's so revolting and gratuitous, that when I first looked at it, I could hardly eat for a week. There is no symbolic or artistic significance to a disemboweled Christ, and I won't even mention my deep respect for old Yeshua (and I'm a Satanist, at that!). If you want good blasphemy, you'll get it from none other than the mainstream band, Marilyn Manson! He's smarter than just saying mean things without relevance. Deicide are the most overrated death metal band ever, and should not be ranked with geniuses like Death and Morbid Angel! This album was so bad, I couldn't wait to sell it; it went directly in the dumpster! Avoid this piece of trash at all costs!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Deicide Album Dec 11 2001
Format:Audio CD
This is Deicide's third studio album and was released in April 1995. In my opinion it is easily their best, everything about this album is perfect. It kicks off with the brutal fast numbers "Once Upon the Cross" and "Christ Denied". You can tell right off that the production is crystal clear, you can hear every instrument great, and Benton's voice is very deep yet you can still understand all the lyrics. "When Satan Rules His World" has some great mid-tempo riffs, and "Trick Or Betrayed" shows Benton's ongoing hate for all things holy. My all time favorite is "They Are the Children Of The Underworld", a perfectly crafted brutal and fast song with great lyrics. "Behind The Light Thou Shall Rise" is always great live and "To Be Dead" has great riffs throughout. "Confessional Rape" is another song they did about a priest mis-using a young child's trust in him. This album is an essential piece of death metal history, if you are looking for a Deicide album or death metal album to start with, I highly recommed this one!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars ONCE UPON THE CROSS!! Feb. 24 2003
Format:Audio CD
If you are a true death metal fan, you should already own this CD, since this is a true clasic death metal album. This whole album is a total slamming, headbanging brutal death metal assault. This may not be the most technical CD you will ever buy but if you like chunky, brutal riffs that you can bang your head and mosh to, this album is yours. The artwork in this album is extremely controversial and I love it! This is definitely Deicide's best album and a true death metal classic. The best songs are "Once Upon the Cross", "Christ Denied", "When Satan Rules his World", and "Kill the Christian". If you are a little boy you can go listen to Korn and pretend to be hardcore when you become a man you can buy this CD and join the Deicide cult. If you want true brutal metal, not whiny fake pop metal, then buy this CD. It will be one of the most brutal 30 minutes you will ever have when listening to this CD. STAY METAL
