The Friendship of golf, golfers, and golf courses, Jan 29 2010
By Thomas W. Halliday "Wondering Aloud" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: One Divot at a Time... (Paperback)
This reads like a travel essay, and I mean that in the best possible sense. This book is an remarkable journey of friendship, golf, and the far reaching places that hardcore golfers go to get their fix. Mr. Colton blends the comedic and heartfelt with a perfect balance and keeps the reader engrossed with detailed descriptions of world class golf courses. Its strength lies in the people you meet along the way. "One Divot at a Time" presents a comfortable familiarity because the characters are so fully realized. You only wish you had golf buddies like this in your weekend foursome. I would highly recommend this book for anyone that daydreams of golf trips, plans golf trips, or looks forward to the camaraderie that they provide.

Very enjoyable, if you're a golf nut. Entertaining and informative. I've played some of the courses Jim discusses, and aspire to the rest, but I doubt I'll catch up. Thanks for the entertaining blog and now the book. Keep writing!

At times funny and at others poignant and insightful, One Divot at a Time does a nice job recapping the authors last few years of his life. He accomplishes this by using golf as his vehicle and it makes you wonder sometimes if his stories are really about golf or if they're really a series of metaphors describing how he has grown up and come of age. You get a real sense for the person at the beginning of the book and how he has changed and become a deeper, more enriched person as he becomes a father and professional, and how his relationship with the game is impacted by both. The golf stories are, however, funny and some of the most humorous parts of the book are the author's self deprecating humor and stinging barbs that he launches at his closest friends. The title itself being listed as "Volume 1" makes you hope that there will eventually be more stories to come.
