Book Description

Oct 8 2008
After many years of demanding studies of medicine, a Gift of healing chooses to manifest itself through Dr. Peter Thornton's unwilling hands. The new ability plays havoc with his professional life. The Gift becomes an insidious curse as it threatens to obliterate his promising career. He struggles against his destiny, until a will greater than his own takes over.

Action takes place in Montreal, Poland and the Vatican. The novel is as much a page-turner as it is a study of human potential.

I bought Mr. Law's book One Just Man and have just finished reading every single word. This book is a jewel.... I own my own company called Exploring the Spirit... (and) would like to carry & sell a good number of Mr. Law's books. (Kathleen Y. Rattigan, Quebec, Canada)

I highly recommend having Stan Law read aloud. It boosts sales by creating a rapport with potential customers. (Mickey Smeele, Queen Bee Books, Port Alberni B.C.)

As usual, you have provided a fascinating story, captivating characters, and profoundly gripping philosophical ideas... ...I am fascinated by your development of the whole cosmology of consciousness. (Kate Jones, writer/editor, Pasadena, USA)

5.0 out of 5 stars One Just Man Aug 23 2009
By Susan Kuchta - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Dr. Peter Thornton spent many years studying medicine. At the highest point of his career it is discovered that Peter has a gift of healing. A gift that he sees as a curse as it interferes with his life and career. This gift sends him on a moral journey, faced with the questions of why him and the meaning of life. A philosophical gem. Enlightens the readers mind to the potential of the human being and to other possibilities. Reminiscent to the trials of Job and the questioning of David in the book of Psalms. Fascinating characters in a captivating story.

What an absolutely amazing book! I was lucky enough to win a copy of this book and I am so glad that I did because had I not, I would have missed an opportunity to read something incredible. It is inspirational and uplifting. This is a book that needs to be read and digested slowly. Fantastic story, great characters and a book that makes you think!

One Just Man
By
Stan I.S. Law

Dr. Peter Thornton is a final-year resident at Montreal General Hospital in Canada. He is a cynical man and a bit of a rake when it comes to women. His favorite assignations are with compliant nurses in a darkened linen closet where he takes what he wants with the same robotic efficiency he demonstrates on his morning rounds. Dr. Peter has a photographic memory when it comes to scientific facts and uses this gift to provide the best possible care to his patients. His immediate boss the aging, yet active, Resident Chief Dr. Brent is impressed by the young resident's talents and the fact that his patients appear to heal extraordinarily well and exit the hospital quicker than the norm. After the young doctor completes his final exams Dr. Brent recommends him for Membership in the prestigious Royal College of Physicians.
Dr. Thornton's living arrangements are somewhat unorthodox as well. After his brother died he moved in with his sister-in-law Ruth and her two young children. To further complicate the situation a butler appears on scene, recommended by the dead brother, and becomes a dominant figure in the household. Very quickly, the enigmatic Winston Smith makes himself irreplaceable to the whole family. Then, Peter meets the beautiful and exotic Catherine Mondellay, who has a Ph.D. in nuclear physics and is the daughter of a billionaire. He falls madly in love.
But everything is about to change.
Mr. Law, the author, has a firm grasp on the disciplines of both physics and metaphysics as his character Peter Thornton delves into his psyche to find out the reasons for the radical change in his behavior. The reader is led through the mind of the good doctor as he contemplates his situation. Thankfully, Cathy is waiting for him and holds his hand through the long night of the soul to follow.
Great job, Mr. Law, this is an excellent book and very well written. It is not a run of the mill novel you can read in a day but a thoughtful expression of Dr. Peter Thornton's moral and spiritual dilemma. I would like to learn more about these characters so I guess I have to buy the next book in the Trilogy.
Mary Firmin, author of Deadly Pleasures.
