Review

'Bond meets Dracula - only better than that' Patricia Briggs, author of the bestselling Moon Called and Blood Bound --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Product Description

It's Jaz Parks. I've already smoked the guy who was the pain in the CIA's you-know-what for the past few years. But now, in the power vacuum left by the death of Edward "The Raptor" Samos, a struggle for supremacy has begun between his former allies.

The CIA feels the balance must be maintained. So when an agent planted among the Weres discovers a plot to assassinate the Coven's leader, my vampire boss and I are brought in to take out the woman hired to do the deed, a killer who might be as wily and Gifted as ourselves.

So it's off to the Scottish Highlands for some twisted fun among murderers, demons and half-crazed relatives. Sometimes being a top-secret CIA assassin isn't all it's cracked up to be.

1.0 out of 5 stars One more bite....bites the dust..., Mar 12 2009
By Southern Belle - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: One More Bite (Paperback)
I have enjoyed this series, but this book doesn't compare with the others. Like another reader mentioned, I too struggled with this book. It was so boring in the beginning and action (mediocre at that) didn't begin until the middle of the book. The continued trash talk about her dad throughout the series has been annoying, but it seems like the focus of this book. Her dad wasn't around while she was growing up because he was in the military - and she blames him for childhood issues. Yet, she pretty much followed in his footsteps career-wise. And now she is not available or around for her sister and family. I think this is a case of "the pot calling the kettle black." Thankfully she and her dad work it out in the end and all I can say is it is about time - only took 5 books to do so. Another aggravation is the relationship between Jaz and Vayl...again - five books later and Jaz is still wishy-washy over the relationship. Jaz is supposed to be this take-charge, assertive, independent, take-no-BS woman who "smokes the bad guys," yet she can't admit her feelings for Vayl because of her "fears" of what others will think of him being a vampire? Whatever....

3.0 out of 5 stars The 5th book in the Jaz Parks series, Dec 2 2009
By A. Mason - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: One More Bite (Paperback)
The 5th book in the Jaz Parks series was just okay for me. While I really like all of the characters, I'm not such a fan of the plot. I love all of the characters in this series. I like that Jaz is a kick-butt girl, but still has this soft side of her that love Vayl. And I like her humor. And I find Vayl intriguing and Cole is just plain cute (and his feelings for Jaz are so sweet!) I really liked the new character that was in this story, Viv, although throughout the whole book I couldn't decide if she was a good guy (or rather girl) or bad guy.

But the plot just doesn't do it for me. I find myself often confused and trying to think back to figure out what is going on. And a lot of it I just plain don't get. But maybe that's me. But I will still continue to read this series and look forward to the next book, Bite Marks.

2.0 out of 5 stars Tired story and flat characters, Mar 3 2009
By L. J. Werbick "Bombrat" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: One More Bite (Paperback)
I enjoyed the beginning of this series. Jaz was a refreshing character and the premise was entertaining.

I had some problems with the 4th book in the series with the believability of the characters' actions and responses, but I liked it enough to purchase this book. What a disappointment.

From the get-go, this book feels shallow, flippant and juvenile. The characters are more concerned with one-liner jokes, trying to hide their inner monologue and unrealistic reactions to a silly 'ghost convention' that the book is centered around.

I am not sure if the author was rushed or is just being more 'free' in her writing, but the book seems like it is told by a 13 year old...definitely not up to par with the previous novels in the series.

Considering how crowded this genre is becoming, there are plenty of other books out there worth reading...do yourself a favor and give this one a 'PASS'.
