Product Description

These knitted and crocheted fashion accessories and decorative accents for the home vary in their required levels of skill, but all can be completed quickly and require only one skein of yarn. The stitch patterns and clear instructions make it easy for even procrastinators and the less-than-diligent to create a ruffled cravat, a drawstring bag, a tank top, cozy scarves, arm and leg warmers, lace wristlets, fingerless gloves, a mohair pillow, and even a sweater for a baby. Several projects do not require any new yarn at all—instead projects such as the Felted Striped Tote or the Labyrinth Circle Rug are designed using up a skein's worth of leftovers from other projects. A guide to terms and techniques, a resource directory, and a bibliography are also included.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stashbusting., Feb 24 2007
By Ria Bridges (Saint John, New Brunswick Canada) - See all my reviews
I had heard quite a number of good things about this book, and so decided to buy it. I wasn't disappointed. One Skein has many good projects to knit and crochet (more knitting than crocheting) that take up only one skein of yarn, and are generally quick to make. It was pretty much what I was expecting.

However, some of the projects weren't actually designed with 'one skein' in mind. The circular rug, for example, requires many many skeins of yarn, and sure, it can be done with half-skeins from many different balls of yarn, but is certainly not a project to be done with one skein, as the book tends to advertise. A icord rug would have been more appropriate, I think.

Overall, though, the projects are inspirational, quick, and fairly fun to work on. It really is a good book for those who are looking for good ways to use up that odd ball of yarn from their stash.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, Nov 28 2006
By Nya (Calgary, AB Canada) - See all my reviews
I was quite disappointed by this book. I was looking forward to the latest by Leigh Radford since I was inspired by many of the projects in her other book, AlterKnits. There was nothing exciting or unique in this book. What was also silly were the pictures of male models modelling many "unisex" items that were very feminine.
