Product Description

From Publishers Weekly

The nice little life that account executive Lisa Alvarez has spent the last eight years constructing is about to fall apart. She's due to marry her boss in barely a month when painful reminders of her dead baby daughter and her ex-husband Nick Maddux force themselves on her. Both Lisa and Nick have tried to make new lives for themselves since the baby's death, although Nick has embraced his daughter's short life by becoming a master craftsman of cradles while Lisa has simply shut the door on her past. Their reunion is fiery, passionate and difficult to read, in part because Lisa is not a congenial character, having turned herself into a career-driven robot. The story veers between Lisa and Nick's rediscovery of their love and the burgeoning love of Nick's sister, Maggie, and sexy screen writer Jeremy Hunt. Maggie and Jeremy are both attractive and deserved more length and breadth than author Freethy (Daniel's Gift) gave them. A magical leitmotif throughout does, however, go some way towards transcending these weaknesses.

From Library Journal

Four weeks before she is to be married, a frantic call for help from her childhood best friend drags Lisa Alvarez out of her safe, well-ordered existence in Los Angeles and back into a life she thought she had left behind, with painful, romantic, and ultimately satisfying results. A pair of wary, emotionally fragile protagonists, a cast of exceptional secondary characters (including three engagingly realistic children), and a multilayered plot that deftly interweaves humor, passion, and the tragedy of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome result in a poignant, heartwrenching, yet heartwarming story that is laced with love and a gentle hint of fantasy. It may appeal to readers who enjoy the work of Debbie Macomber, LaVyrle Spencer, and Kristin Hannah. Freethy (Ask Mariah, Avon, 1997) won a Rita Award in 1997 and lives in the San Francisco Bay area.

ONE TRUE LOVE-- Rita-winner, Barbara Freethy has given us yet another dazzling gift from the heart!
With each new book, Barbara shows the world why she is one of Contemporary Romance's new reigning queens, an extraordinarily gifted storyteller who won't settle for anything less than a complete commitment of heart and soul from her legions of fans.
ONE TRUE LOVE is the story of a love that must rise from the ashes of tremendous sorrow. These characters are rich, real, and at times heart-wrenching as they try to reconcile the unbearable losses of the past with the risks a future together might hold. Their hopes and fears are brought home with such power and insight, you may decide to skip that trip to the beach in favor of reading just one more chapter!
If you only have time for one exceptional read this summer, catch Barbara's latest claim to fame, ONE TRUE LOVE. You'll want to share it with friends, but they'll have to buy their own copy because you won't want to part with it!
You've done it again, Barbara! Thank you!

Eight years have passed since Lisa and Nick Maddox's infant child Robin died and their once cherished marriage subsequently ended. Lisa swore to never return to their home in Solana Beach, California. The former couple struggles to make new, but separate lives and in fact Lisa plans to marry her much older boss who she regards as a safe person.

Maggie Scott, a single mother of three children, finds a strange note addressed to her deceased spouse. Already struggling, the note pushes Maggie over the edge. Her best friend Lisa comes back to Solana Beach to help her friend. However, while in her former hometown she runs into Nick and the sparks between them immediately threatens to enflame them both. Nick wants his former wife back in his arms, but can Lisa overcome the mental anguish he seems to represent to her in order for them to find their lost love.

Barbara Freethy is quickly earning a well-deserved reputation for her romance novels. Her latest novel, ONE TRUE LOVE, is a beautiful entry for Ms. Freethy's fabulous resume. The terrific story line is filled with deep emotions, generated from two wonderful lead protagonists. This is one author whose gift for writing is taking her to the top of the profession faster than a speeding bullet.

This is my second Barbara Freethy book ("Some Kind of Wonderful" is Fabulous!) and I will now look for all of her books. This book weaves a great story around Lisa and her ex-husband Nick. Lisa finds herself babysitting for her ex-sister-in-law, Maggie, when Maggie is burned out and needs some time alone. Lisa is about to marry Raymond, her much older boss, in one month. Nick shows up to help with the extended babysitting and thus begins their journey to work through painful past events and ever present attraction. I really enjoyed the way the author blends Lisa, Maggie, and Raymond's stories together and I found the ending particularly good. This is a quick, enjoyable read with interesting characters.
