I was first introduced to Liquid Soul back in high school when one of the teachers played "Salt Peanuts" during a jazz group practice. I immediately rushed out and bought "Make Some Noise", which remains my favourite alblum to date.
One Two Punch delivers what true fans of Liquid Soul have come to expect: the constant evolution of this group. The beats are hard and the horn notes crisp, perfect for the ride home after a long week or getting a serious groove on.
People familiar with only one of their albums might find some of this music a tad hard to swallow, but it quickly finds its way home. There are lots of different and interesting overlays as all Liquid Soul CDs have, which is what separates them from the rest. For those wanting a heavier latin influence, however, you won't find it in this one.
Newcomers should enjoy this album, but I would recommend "Make Some Noise" or "Here's the Deal" for the more acid-funk oriented.
