Sep 27 2011 Fool's Gold Romance (Book 6)
Wedding bells are ringing in Fool's Gold, but not for Nevada Hendrix. Her triplet sisters are engaged, and even her mother has a more active love life than she does. Determined to make a fresh start, she applies for her dream job, only to discover that her new boss is her first love. Maybe she could overlook the fact that they've seen each other naked, but she'll never forget the way he broke her heart.

Tucker Janack agrees to Nevada's "business only" ground rules. After all, love is a trap that the construction millionaire has avoided his whole life. But when great business partners turn out to be so much more, every rule gets broken. Will either of them be willing to try again…or will their past get in the way?

5.0 out of 5 stars "Letting go, taking a chance, and finding love" Sep 27 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Charming, serious, funny, sad, Only His was a book that had my heart racing! Why? I lived it, the death of a husband, stepping out of the box for a new job and walking away from a first love before he broke my heart! All of this was the focus of Only His, a most amazing love story.

This summer, I have so enjoyed reading Susan's (3) book series, Fools Gold. These books have been about the Hendrix Triplets.....Only Yours, Only Mine and this one Nevada's story, Only His. As the back cover states, Mallery has written a love story about "letting go, taking a chance, and finding love".

Nevada's other two sisters have found love and were planning a double wedding. Nevada was happy for them but secretly felt some loss. On top of that, she wanted a change from working for her brother and the family construction business. A new construction company was going to be building a casino and hotel in Fools Gold and she wanted to interview for the position. However, she believed she would be interviewing with the father and owner of Janack Construction. Not the man she fell in love ten years earlier. Of course, that was not the case, it was her first love, the son, Tucker Janack she would need to face. Let the games begin!

Then there was Nevada's mother Denise Hendrix, who had led an incredible life, was an excellent mother and loved her children and the Fools Gold residents with all of her heart. It had been years since her husband passed away and there was a hint that her first love had moved back to town. In fact, she had a tattoo with his name, Max. She was also dating again. However, it was a scene with Nevada walking in on Denise and Max on the kitchen table that had me choking with laughter.

That was not the only complication in Fools Gold. It was her attraction to Tucker; her memories of how years earlier he had broken her heart and had been captivated and obsessed with a world famous artist name Cat. On top of that, how Tucker had taken her virginity, how embarrassed she had been after the experience. Now this flamboyant artist had returned to Fools Gold to make Nevada and Tucker's new relationship even more complicated. I could not believe it and wondered how this would end.

Susan Mallery always weaves fascinating tales with her romances and with her magic, always includes secondary characters. There was Jo, the woman who owned Joe's Bar, Max, Denise's love interest, Will who was chasing after Jo. Not to mention Mayor Marsha, the two women who were Police and Fire Chief, the new Librarian and the "goat lady". There was a shortage of men in Fools Gold and these women were some of the key players. They supported each other. In time of need, they all took care of each other. That was what the residents of Fools Gold did! Add to the mix the new and old residents of this sweet, sweet town......Fools Gold, incredible reading!

However, there "must" be drama and trust me there was, especially with the visit by Tucker's ex-Cat and a few surprises thrown into the mix. You'll die laughing when you read Cat and Nevada's renewed friendship and the gift Cat wants to donate to Fools Gold.

Happy Endings? It would not be an excellent romance written Susan Mallery if there was not a sweet and charming happy ending. I laughed, cried, and had to reflect back on my own life and remember the lessons I had to learn, just like the towns resident's of Fools Gold learned in Only His. Those were "taking a chance, letting go and finding love".

1.0 out of 5 stars No more Susan Mallery for me Oct 1 2011

Okay. I've enjoyed the Fool's Gold books to this point. Dakota and Montana Hendrix's books were just okay, but I enjoy keeping up with the town, so I read them anyway. But "Only His" was just terrible. I'm no hater, but I do not want a lesbian seduction scene in the middle of my hetero romance novel. Seriously! The addition of the side character Cat was just gross, even before I understood what Ms. Mallery meant by "exploring her feminine side". Don't get me started on the stupidity of the sculpture, either. Tucker, the lead romantic "hero" in this book was just dumb. I realize that romance novels need a problem in the middle. I know it must be something that the cast of characters must work out, but this one was vapid. I've done my time with vapid romance novels, I'm looking for something more sophisticated now. There was very little about Tucker that appealed to me, he certainly is not my idea of a romantic hero. Nevada wasn't really a disappointment, just a poorly thought out character. I suppose Ms. Mallery thought that with three novels the character of the three sisters would be well established, so she should not have to do it all again in one novel. Actually, I thought the character of all three sisters was a bit lacking, but I didn't dislike the other books as much as I disliked this one. I would rather have read much more detail about Jo or Heidi or Annabelle. I've liked Jo all along, though. Susan Mallery is off my auto buy list, and she is probably off my read list all together. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and others loved the book. I've told you what I didn't like, so I'd say, buy at your own risk. You know what really burns me? Even though the other two books were just ok, I looked forward to this book. I made a point to buy it on the day it was released. Yep, she's off my buy list.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just a fun read... Oct 8 2011
By Christina Snow - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
My Review:
Susan Mallery consistently writes contemporary romances that I just love to read for an afternoon's escape. Her books are sweet, fun, romantic, witty, and always feature a wonderfully quirky cast of characters. The Fool's Gold series continues to delight my reader's mind. I just really love this series. There is something about continually getting to visit this sweet little town and the wonderful characters that live there, that just makes me happy.

This book is about Nevada, the last of the Hendrix triplets to find love. Her hero is Tucker, although it takes her a while to realize it. Tucker was one of Ethan's (Nevada's brother) friends and when she goes to college where Tucker lives, Ethan tells her to look Tucker up. That results in a friendship between Nevada, Tucker, and Tucker's girlfriend Cat. Tucker doesn't realize that Nevada actually has feelings for him, but Cat does, and in a twisted scheme, Cat "gifts" Nevada with Tucker. This results in the most horribly disappointing five minutes of Nevada's life. She hasn't seen him since until she walks into a job interview for her dream job ten years later. Needless to say, they have some issues that they need to work out.

Such a fun book. I love that the history between Nevada and Tucker is so embarrassingly horrifying for both of them. It makes it a really fun set-up for the book. But beyond that and before the romance truly starts to develop, I like that Tucker & Nevada develop a true friendship and comradery both at work and outside of it. They both have their faults and have both made mistakes in their history, but these are definitely two people that you can like and cheer for as a reader.

There are also some fabulous side stories in this one...the romance between Will & Jo, Nevada's mom & Max (OMG, I don't know if I have ever laughed as hard as I did when Nevada walked in on them), and even the addition of Cat and her mixed up sexuality. It was such a fun book to read. I had quite a few laugh out loud moments and I read this on a day where I was really sick and miserable, so that is saying something.

This has been such a fun series. I have loved getting to know the triplets this summer. I am so glad that we get three more installments of it next summer. Whooohooo!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars I am in the minority...I give it 2.5 Sep 27 2011
By avidreader - Published on Amazon.com

Maybe it's just me...maybe I have read too many bad romance novels lately that I have a difficult time now recognizing a good one? Or maybe I am a little bit over all the contemporary romances revolving around these "cute" towns where life is great, everyone loves everyone, and everyone helps each other, (born and raised in a small town and having relatives in other small towns BTW). Don't get me wrong, there have been some good books out there around small towns, Mallery herself being the author of a couple, and that is not why I didn't like the book more. The writing was fine, descriptions good, but I just couldn't feel the connection between the leads. It could have to do with the fact that you hear over and over again about his obsession with another woman. For goodness sake why would anyone want to attempt to compete with that? In my opinion the romance was contrived and not believable at all. The 2 side stories actually held my interest much more than the leads.
