Stupid Book?,
By M. Faris - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Oops!: A Diaper David Board Book (Board book)
To the reviewer who called the book "Stupid" and said "The words are like, Ball... Oops. Why is the ball an oops? How did it go through the window? This book is just lacking in everything. Don't waste your money." and others like him/her...The number of words is not the issue. The children reading or being read to must make the connections between the few words and the actions / emotions they see on the page. It is about finding meaning by connecting their own experiences / understanding with that of the character. It is not about having the big ideas of each book fed to you through text. Try it out yourself sometime...you'd probably be less likely to make the review you did and maybe be able to answer the questions you posed in the process. Shannon's books are just fine...and rhyming isn't a prerequisite for a children's book =) 9 of 9 people found the following review helpful

I don't know what it is about David books...,
By S.C. "luv2read" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Oops!: A Diaper David Board Book (Board book)
There is something special about David books. Maybe it is the simplicity of the words but my 1 year old son is absolutely in love with them. He has four of them and always reaches for the David books over any other book that he has. He has tons of them too that have been passed down from siblings. They basically have just a couple of words on each page and you read them in about 20 seconds but the pictures add life to the short story. My son will sit and flip through these books on his own throughout the day. He gets a kick out of these.

I don't know why he loves these, but he does,

My son is nuts for David. I have no idea why. But hey, he's two. This is ultra simplistic -- pretty much one word per page. I end up doing a lot of ad-libbing and talking about the other things in the illustrations. And even though I think the David character is oddly drawn, the scenes really are cute. In one illustration, David dumps mac 'n cheese onto the family dog, a Westie, from his high chair. That cracks us up, as my son has dropped mac 'n cheese on our Westie more times than I can count. If you're looking for a book that will help you build up your child's vocabulary, this probably isn't the one. But if your child has already been bitten by the "David" bug, he or she will love it.
