A nasty piece of work, Feb 19 2005
This review is from: Open Water (Widescreen) (DVD)
Not a great movie, but a very very good movie, that does exactly what it needs to do with the minimum amount of resources. As a two-hander, both leads are fine actors; the set up is brief and concise, and the premise is astonishlngly terrifying, considering how simple it is. I found myself longing for any shot of dry land just to relieve the terror of the watery isolation; their arc exactly matched that of the human condition; lighthearted, followed by bravery, followed by fear, followed by despair, fololowed ultimately by stoic acceptance. Daniel has all the male strengths, and weaknesses, and Susan has all the female strengths and weaknesses, and their stories describe the human gender arc. The film is a microcosm of hope, fear, life, death and the savage world, and if you're afraid of deep water, you're in for the ride of your life.

Loved it, Jan 2 2012

Frightening and real. The best moments are the scenes leading to their being stranded by the tour boat. Though it was awesome the first viewing, it wasn't so great the second me.

Good, and ends unlike other predictable movies., Feb 13 2011
This review is from: Open Water (Widescreen) (DVD)
A story of a real situation that happens to alot of people when on vacations. People get lost at sea, and sometimes have no way of getting back.
Unlike a typical ending where fiction always plays a role of the good guy winning and becomes completely predictable, this one ends well....in a sort of a different way.
Makes you want to remember to keep your chin up and not screw up while on a vacation.
