This review is from: Oran Trilogy Sadars Keep (Mass Market Paperback)
Sadar's Keep is the second book in the Oran Trilogy, which follows several different groups all vying for the control and future of a country called Oran.

There's still typos in this book, although not as bad as the first. (However, I did do a double take when I realized a whole sentence had been printed twice in succession!) Call me picky, but I really do like to read my books without glaring grammatical errors.

In Sadar's Keep we get to explore more of the characters' emotions and motives as they prepare to do battle at Sadar, the site of the last big battle between two of the elemental queens. This book finally tells us why the Burning occurred, as well as giving us a better history and understanding of the country, and sets up what it means for the ultimate fate of Oran if the current state of things is allowed to continue.

I like stories and characters that are well thought out and have more than one side to them (not all good, not all bad). In this book, the author hints that although the former elemental queen Huld had good reasons for trying to subdue Zorah, she wasn't entirely blameless or had the best of motives for her actions.

The soon-to-be queens continue to mature in this book, as they begin to realize their importance to the current rebellion and future of the country, and even their ties to the past. While the past may have shaped them into their inescapable destiny, they are by no means bound by it when it comes to their decisions and actions.

Definitely an enjoyable read and a great set up for the final book.

I didn't know it was part of a series. But the end is open and just begging for another title, so I came looking her - discovering it is the second title in the serie! I've already ordered the finale (Beldans Fire)...

5.0 out of 5 stars A well-crafted fantasy world and excellent magic system., Sep 17 1997
By Janice A. Cullum - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Sadar's Keep (Paperback)
This story continues the tale of the Queen's Four Quarters begun in Snyder's "New Moon." Enough background information is given, however, that it can be read on its own. The cast of characters are sympathetic and well drawn. You come to truly care for the fate of Oran, suffering under the Silean occupation brought in by the country's own Queen
