Organic Gardening 101 - "How To" Essentials and Tips for Starting an Outdoor or Indoor Organic Vegetable Garden

QUICK NOTE: This book is for BEGINNERS to gardening (organically). You get all the basics including which tools to use for doing what, terminology, etc. If you are an advanced gardener, there are still things to be gleaned from it.

Have you noticed how much more expensive organic vegetables (and fruits) are in comparison to the sprayed with pesticides and chemical fertilizer ones are? I've seen $2.50 for an organic apple which is utterly ridiculous!

Learning how to start an organic vegetable garden beginning with pure organic seeds, whether indoor or outdoor, is what "Organic Gardening 101 - "How To" Essentials and Tips for Starting an Outdoor or Indoor Organic Vegetable Garden" teaches you to do.

If you are a beginner and don't know much about organic gardening, this book covers the basic "how to" essentials to get you started. Some of what you will learn is how to tell which soil is most conducive for growing vegetation and how to make natural fertilizer to plant your seeds in.

There are a lot of components to organic gardening so being familiar with some common basic terminology provided in this book helps out when you go to your local nursery or garden store.
You'll know what you're talking about and exactly what to look for. All of that is covered including what specific gardening tools you'll need to use for your vegetable garden.

Even the planter or container that's used for growing the seeds in (and proper lighting) plays a role in how well it grows. Especially if you are growing an indoor vegetable garden, this would need to be taken into consideration which is discussed in detail.

You'll also learn about miniature organic vegetable gardening that's really fun and easy to grow. It's so nice and convenient to literally pick vegetables and herbs right off your plant without leaving your home.

Helpful tips and resourceful websites that take you deeper into what to do are included to help you create the perfect organic vegetable garden from scratch - indoor or outdoor - depending on your situation. Either way, you'll enjoy your home grown vegetables!

About the Author

Stevie is just an ordinary person that's gotten quite fed-up with chemicals in the products we buy, the food we eat, the nonchalant attitude of corporations that continue to exploit the earth's natural resources, the overall toll it has taken and continues to take on our planet and precious eco system; and anything that contributes to ruining our environment. So she's passionate about bringing awareness in as many ways as possible to how each person can individually do a little something to contribute to a cleaner environment which is beneficial not only to people; but other living things that we share this planet with. In this [Special Edition Collection] of Sustainable Living - Practical Eco-Friendly Tips for Green Living and Self-Sufficiency in the 21st Century, she attempts to shed light on topics that are not only interesting and educational, but that others might be considering due to health issues, economic situations, or just outright curiosity. A broad array of alternative eco-friendly methods on green living, self-sufficiency, and how organic products and foods really are better for us and the environment is brought out. Employing some of the things mentioned in this book really can save you money and is healthier for your body, well-being, and the environment. Let's give the landfills, groundwater and finite natural resources a break by educating ourselves and taking action that will make a difference.

3.0 out of 5 stars Basic & Short April 26 2012
By Julie Norman - Published on Amazon.com

This is a short book on organic gardening, with some illustrations, links and indexed table of contents. It is written for beginner gardeners who wants to be chemical-free.

Although there were a few things that I didn't know about such as how to test soil, there seemed to be a lot of very basic stuff such as a list and explanation of garden tools (gloves had a short paragraph). There was also basic info on how to plant seeds, types of veggies, containers to use, etc. that are not necessarily related to organic gardening, but gardening in general. It seemed most of the organic part was in the beginning of the book, the rest was very basic gardening info.

I was hoping for more info on the organic part. There was a little on pests, but I've seen more info on websites than was in the book. I was expecting more because of the "101" in the title. So if this was a class, I think it should be an "Intro To" 1 day session, rather than a "101" semester class.
4.0 out of 5 stars 101 is an exaggeration but worthwhile intro Feb. 16 2014

This should be called "basic gardening intro", and I give 4 stars just to encourage absolute beginners curious about gardening to go ahead and buy this helpful overview of what gardening involves. You will not be able to grow anything using only this book, but if you are a beginner and read through this pamphlet a few times, you will now know how to get going and what you are getting into.

You will learn what to learn more about and why you should care. That's it, and that's enough for the small investment. Go for it.
1.0 out of 5 stars Very basic book Feb. 16 2014

I found very little information in this book. Perhaps it was too basic for me but most if the book is common sense. There's a section on what to buy including gloves and a soil! Not worth the space on my kindle.
4.0 out of 5 stars Simple like organic gardening should be Jan. 18 2013

I am a total beginner at gardening and this book was really helpful to me. It gave me a lot of information and ideas about how to start a garden. I feel that it is pretty detailed without being too long or redundant. Some good links are included for seed companies. It would be a 5 star except there are several typos in the book that could have been caught with a grammar check, but the typos do not detract from the usefulness of the material.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely great book for you to start an organic garden! April 2 2013

Listen this is a great book. I am an experienced organic gardener and I love to teach people how to garden. I especially stress the benefits and importance of growing organically. That said this book is a great book for the guy who wants to grow an organic garden but has no idea what he is doing. After all books are great for teaching us things we want to know and this book does just that. It states right in the description that this book is for beginners. Why would you knock off stars for that reason when the intent of the book is to teach a beginner? After all you can't teach veteran gardener but they can always learn new tips here & there as I did from this book. We never stop learning. I always recommend this book to people who want to learn how to garden organically. There out there and need a book like this. Not everyone knows how to garden. Hats off to the author. Great book! :0)
