WOW!, Feb 26 2003
This review is from: Origenes (Latin) (Audio CD)
Alejandro Fernandez is clearly one of the great romantic singers of his generation and this CD is a fabulous example of the modern fusion of ranchera with flamenco, jazz, and even Native American music. I must have heard "Tantita Pena" over a hundred times and I can't get tired of it. When I first heard it the flamenco guitar strains made me sit up and take notice as much as his voice did. The music video of this is on a DVD called "La Trayectoria" (see my review of that) and it is an amazing production. "Pajaro Perdido", "Donde vas tan sola?", and "Ay, Amor!" are also musically interesting with beautiful lyrics. Anyone who hasn't investigated Latin music recently should probably start with this CD, which will create a very serious appetite for more. Lyrics included, along with some good photos.

Lo mas suave que nunca!, Dec 7 2003
This review is from: Origenes (Latin) (Audio CD)
I fell into purchasing this disc by listening to a Spanish radio station that was giving Tantita Pena a lot of air time. Like most everyone I kinda cringed, hoping I wasn't being suckered into buying another crummy album for one song. Let me tell you, this entire album is pure dynamite! From the first song to the last (Las Mananitas, hidden on track 30) every track is first rate. The melodies are each unique and the care in production and delivery is patently obvious. The origen of each song speaks volumes and who better to deliver the message with power and sincerity but Alejandro! I would highly recommend Origenes, consider it an investment in fine music.

I don't even speak spanish and I like the vocals. Damn these foriegn singers have more skillz than britney spears, N'stink and gaystreet boys. Where have all great american singers gone to? Stop the bubble gum insanity.
