A true Artist, Mar 30 2011

This review is from: Original Album Classics - 3CD Slipcase - Tidal / When The Pawn Hits... / Extraordinary Machine (Audio CD)
First, I may need to disclaim that I am completely in love with this woman. To summarize Fiona Apple's genre, it is fairly intellectual, emotional and a bit gloomy. Her songs do not fall into the commercial category. You won't dance much on her tracks but it will leave you thinking about her themes. I think she is the most authentic artist I have been fortunate to discover in the past 20 years... Her concert appearances are as good as her albums. You can check some of her videos on internet...
Now, let's go with the review of her albums...
Tidal was Fiona Apple's first album and one of the most celebrated. It contains specifically "Criminal" and "Shadowboxer" which made her famous. It is noticeable that there are no duds in Fiona's tracks. They are all a part of her and will all correspond to a different mood. My favorite are "Slow like Honey" and "Carrion"
When the Pawns (second album) did not get as celebrated as the first and I do not really understand why since I find the tracks to be even better than in the first album. "Paper bag", "I know" and "Get Gone" are such well written songs. I found myself listening to them in loop and never got tired of them and the emotions they do carry. The rest of the album is far from mediocre, I just listed my favorites.
Extraordinary machine is her last album (2006) and once again has not one bad track. The title song is excellent in theme and lyrics and give a feeling of cabaret. Still in the continuity of the previous albums but with a production a little bit more modern. My favorites on this one are Waltz, Red Red Red, Tymps, Oh Well...
This compilation of the three albums won't make you miss any song but you won't have the DVD version of the last album which contains such good apparitions on stage.
Once again, if you like true artistic talent, do not hesitate one second and get her albums. Whichever ones... Give her a little time to set in your system and you will be addicted for life to her music, as I am...
