I grew up with Toto albums. My first one (Toto I) was an LP, and then their second ("Hydra") was a cassette tape. This boxset offers first 5 album in the CD format. All original, not re-mastered by someone "non-original" (often re-mastered albums are too "tweaked" for more palatable but un-faithful to the original. As a bona-fide Toto fan (I learned everything from them how to play the guitar and how to set up rack effects etc. etc.), I definitely recommend this boxset. It is very affordable, too!

I think Toto are a band that never got the respect they should have. They put down some important work on their first four albums, although the second was a bit of a letdown. Toto was a commercial band with dept. Normally I stay away from commercial music, especially from the 80s, but these guys had something to them. They were intelligent, they could rock, they could be soft, they were progressive and they could put down a beat. I think they drew so much flack because they were one band that showed how popular music should be done, which is something too many people can't wrap their heads around. Although the fifth disc in this collection shows them degrading into the spiritless music tag that was attached to them early on, I think the other four discs, for the most part, show why this is a band that deserves to be taken seriously.

This is great, and is a very good collection for someone who enjoys a lot of Toto's music, but they don't feel that compilation albums have what they want. The only minor problem I have with this is that if you read the description, the CDs are in miniture LP sleeves, and the text naming the songs is very small. But seriously, this is a really good deal, and you will get what you paid for!

I've been a big fan of Toto for a long time; anyone who is will certainly not fault these (first) five albums for inclusion. You either like them or not, and I think "Isolation", "IV", and "Hydra" are the best albums of their career. I think the packaging is cute, utilitarian, and sure saves a lot of space (that's why I bought them).
The down side, though, is that they are recorded at a much lower level than the original albums/CDs. I don't like to have to turn up my player to hear them more adequately. Buyers should be forewarned about this...
