Should've Been Big!,

This review is from: Orion the Hunter (Audio CD)
I just recently bought this CD, after having the vinyl version almost 20 years ago, and misplacing it. After almost 20 years, I listened to this disc and I'm amazed this group never made more than a small dent in the rock genre. Granted, there's at least one quirky early-80's ballad with corny keyboards on this effort, maybe even two of them, but the rest of the album is solid! Fran Cosmo has some of the strongest vocals of any era rock singer with a range that is uncomparable. He shares the spotlight with Barry Goudreau on lead guitar, and together they make a duo that is simply amazing! Add Bruce Smith on bass, Michael De Rosier on drums, and backing vocals by Boston singer Brad Delp, and you have one excellent album. Too bad the 80's record execs had their heads up all of the Motley Crues of the worlds asses and missed the boat on this one. There is some heavy fare here, such as "All Those Years," and the high powered "Dreamin'." With better publicity, the album would have been right at home in the Billboard top 10 list, possible flying higher than any Boston album, sans the first one.Sidenote: Barry Goudreau used to play guitar for Boston and has a new effort out with Brad Delp, who still sings for Boston. Fran Cosmo, aka Fran Migliaccio, also sings for Boston, and handles the heavy work.

LONG TIME BOSTON FAN. PURCHASED BARRY GOUDREAU SOLO ALBUM &RTZ's RETURN TO ZERO. LIKED BOTH OF THEM. PURCHASED THIS CD & I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED.... SAME WRITERS (DELP/GOUDREAU), BUT THE SOUND WAS DIFFERENT.. I THINK BRAD SHOULD HAVE SUNG THESE SONGS INSTEAD OF FRAN COSMO....

How did I miss this album ?,

Despite being a Boston fan from the beginning...I've only discovered the "spin off" bands like RTZ...and Orion The Hunter within the past 3 years....and all I can say is how did I miss them....especially "Orion The Hunter" ?Barry Goudreau...the underated former Boston guitarist formed "Orion The Hunter" in between his very good self titled solo album and RTZ...and I've got to say this is a fine piece of work ! It's great "80's" rock...ALOT like Starship and Journey in many ways...but with more sophistication and a more progressive sound...and hearing it for the first time today...it just blew me away ! Why didn't this band make it ? The whole thing is great...but the standout cuts are "Dreamin" and "Dark And Stormy" . Brad Delp of Boston provides writing and backing vocals to this great CD. If you enjoy Boston...the "spin off" work...and above average 80's rock...add " Orion The Hunter" to your shopping cart now !
