I bought this for my wife but in truth I stole a peek at the articles. I believe there is no one who can't benefit from a reasoned, periodical assessment of the paths taken and the paths not taken. It's a very inspirational collection and Oprah is, well, the one and only Oprah. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Book Proves Oprah's Advice Is Still Sought Out & Appreciated, Dec 1 2011
By C. A. Webb "Conversations Book Club" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: O's Best Advice Ever!: Make Over Your Life With Oprah & Friends (Hardcover)
The platform that Oprah Winfrey has created through her television show, the radio show as well as the magazine has been instrumental in helping people live the life they have felt they were destined to have. In O'S BEST ADVICE EVER! we are able to take away some of the lessons Oprah has tried to share with us along with those that she has gleaned from inspiring individuals that have crossed her path.

For me this book was less about Oprah---though she definitely has alot to say because of what she has seen, been through and done in her life---and more about what her experiences have helped her in sharing with others. One of Oprah's mottos is that life is so much better when you share. For her I believe she saw this as an opportunity to answer so many of us that want to know her thoughts on various issues as well as how she would approach various situations in life. This book let's us see that this is not just something she does lightly. Oprah realizes that by putting out something like this project that others will in many ways try to emulate her advice in their own lives. Because of this I think she has taken great care to be practical, realistic and open to the fact that what she says may not necessarily work for everyone.

Whether you are looking for answers from a trusted friend or just curious about the reflections of individuals you have admired, O'S BEST ADVICE EVER will give you an inspiring read with great suggestions for your own journey in life.

3.0 out of 5 stars Outside of her advice, it's cool, Oct 22 2011
By Shamontiel L. Vaughn "I'm boycotting Amazon's... - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: O's Best Advice Ever!: Make Over Your Life With Oprah & Friends (Hardcover)
Considering the book is supposed to be about Oprah's advice, I didn't enjoy that part, but I did enjoy her interviews with other people (ex. Tyler Perry and Elizabeth Edwards) and her traveling experience with her best friend, Gayle King. I even liked the interview that her fans got to do with her, asking her the questions instead of the other way around. I cracked up about her talking about getting a dog and not knowing why she thought she'd have time to raise an animal. The health, money and beauty advice was nothing special, I'd heard or read it all before, and the only thing that stuck out was Dr. Oz's "4 ways to keep your brain sharp."

But my issue with the book was Oprah seemed to have temporary amnesia about doing controversial talk show episodes. She claimed she would stop after an episode when a wife found out her husband had a baby by his mistress. She said she didn't like the feeling the woman had with that reaction, which I could respect. I'm not into shock factor talk shows (ex. Jerry Springer's or Maury Povich's), but Oprah hasn't been a saint since then when it comes to controversial television. I'm still trying to figure out why she felt it was necessary to do that episode with Mo'Nique's brother about him molesting the (Oscar-winning) comedian/former talk show host.

She'd just won an Oscar, and I felt like that was a slap in the face to air a show like that soon after. For that reason, I wouldn't take Oprah's advice on anything but money. This book is all right, but that episode of her show about Mo'Nique (with Mo'Nique not on the show) left an incredibly bad taste in my mouth about an otherwise respectable sista who has had admirable success in the entertainment industry. Personally, I liked two of her other "O" books better: "Love Your Life: O's Handbook for Your Best Today--and Tomorrow" and "Dream Big: O's Guide to Discovering Your Best Life." But I do think she should've had a "What I Know For Sure" about what a stupid decision that was to air Mo'Nique out like that, especially considering the woman wouldn't even get on Oprah's show about that.
