This , the first volume, sets a cracking pace; its compulsive reading mind stretching and hugely enjoyable. Unreservedly recommended.

Having been put off reading science fiction some years ago by a glut of Isaac Asimov and Ron Hubbard, wishstones and electric horses I approached this book with a little trepidation dreading the inevitable drudgery of unlikely technology. Not a bit of it though.
The author's aviation background shows through and serves to keep the technology plausible (I'm afraid space dragon containing force fields make my eyes glaze over). In this area the reader is not distracted by thoughts of "That'll never happen" and is allowed to concentrate on the storyline.
My only criticism is that occasionally conversation and interaction between the characters can be a little stilted and read as if scripted but perhaps I've been reading too much Roddy Doyle.
I await the next book in the trilogy with interest, I want to see how believable the alien technology turns out to be.
