jimmy Page once said, that if is song sound good either: acoustique, symphonique as well as amplified and distort, it was a good song.
GODSMACK definitely understand that concept, but the other way around. Revisiting some of FACELESS song only with a 6 strings concussion, drums and good vocals really redifine the way i saw Godsmack. They really are music artist, not just a make up band who like to trash.
They ptove that they want to explore further than VODOO or SERINITY. The also prove that they have futur for us to see.A futurfully loaded of raw material , not paste copy of their old succes. The engage a way that many bands enage to late in their carreer and failed.
Doing this soon in their career will avoid a fan backlash like Metallica suffered With LOAD.

As for the Cd itself. Gets Long after a while the really slow pace is hard to sustain when you are use to their other material. But everything is relaxing and fun to listen.
i really enjoy this cd.
The rewriting is mindblasting totally new material, but in the meantime (with re-align) we can still see that the song was somthing heavy. They kept that bass sound that remind us the heavy metal way.
But for ASSLEEP its a rediscovery of AWAKE. Totally something else.
Recording is great, good producing provide by lead vocals ERNA.
A nice album to have for Openminded people who love bvand who explore and rediscover. Really old school way.

WELL FIRST OFF ALL THE ALICE IN CHAINS COMPARISONS NEED TO BE PUT TO BED AS THIS ALBUM PROVES THAT THEY ARE CAPABALE AGAIN OF BEING UNIQUE IN SONGWRITING ABILITY ASWELL AS TALENT AND LYRICAL STYLE THAT ONLY SULLY ERNA CAN LAY CLAIM! THE OTHER SIDE BEGINS WITH 'RUNNING BLIND' WHICH IS A GREAT MELODIC SLAB OF ROCK FROM THE 'SMACK LADS WHICH IS GREAT TO CHILL OUT TO IT TAKE MANY CURVES IN A GREAT COMPOSITION OF MUSIC AND AN AWESOME LYRICALLY BASIS FOR A GREAT SONG! NEXT UP IS 'REALIGN' WHICH IS AN AWESOME REWORK OF THIS SLAMMING TRACK OFF OF 'FACELESS' WHICH PROVIDES AN AWESOME ARRAY OF DOWNTUNED ACOUSTIC GUITARS AND SUBTLE DRUMS AGAIN TWO TRACKS IN AN IT STILL SOUNDS VERY FRESH! TRACK THREE IS 'TOUCHE' WHICH I BELIEVE TO BE THE BEST TRACK ON THE 'OTHER SIDE'WHICH IS AN EPIC OF A SONG WITHOUT HAVING ANY SOURCE OF DYNAMICS FROM THE DRUMS AND ALL ARE PROVIDED BY GUEST VOCALIST AND FORMER GODSMACK GUITARIST DUALING WITH SULLY WHICH GIVES FOR A GREAT EFFECT. NEXT UP IS 'VOICES' WHIOCH IS A VERY BALLADY- ANATHAMIC SING ALONG WHICH QUOTES 'LISTEN TO THE RAIN FALLING DAY BY DAY BY DAY...' WHICH SOUNDS NARLY WITH THE STRUMMED ACOUSTIC GUITARS AND HUSHED DRUMS IN A WORD ITS A ROCKING TRACK WITH INTRUIGING SUBTLTIES! NEXT IS ANOTHER REWORK OF A 'SMACK CLASSIC WHICH IS OFF OF THERE GREAT FIRST ALBUM! AGEN THIS IS STIL VERY HARD ROCK EDGE ALTHO WITH ACOUSTIC GUITARS! THERE ARE A FEW VOCAL DIFFERENCES SUCH AS HARMONIES A OPPOSED TO HIS SIGNATURE GROWL THIS TRACK IS NARLY! NEXT UP IS THE OPUS THAT IS THE 'SPIRAL'WHICH AS WE ALL REMEBER OFF OF 'AWAKE' IS IN ITS SELF A JOURNEY OF MUSIC PROPOTIONS ITS A FIVE PLUS MINUTE EFFORT WHICH AS WE ALL KNOW IS WORTH LISTENING TO EVERY HEART FELT MOMENT AGEN I WAS STOKED TO HEAR THIS REWORK!Read more ›

Let me start off this review by saying that I absolutely HATE Godsmack and that Alice In Chains is my all time favorite band. All that aside, I enjoyed this CD. Ive always thought that Godsmack's lyrics and music were generic, and they were the reason people made fun of nu metal so much. However, the song "Running Blind" had me change my thoughts. The lyrics are still very contrived and are nothing new, but the music is a whole new element. There is a very interesting mood on this CD, especially on the remake of Awake, the song "Asleep". This song shows that Godsmack does have some musical talent. Even Sully sounds almost tolerable. I dont think Godsmack deserves what they get, because a 15 year old high school kid could write their lyrics. This CD does give them a little shred of hope that maybe they can do something right. Honestly, I think they could have been a much better band without Sully Erna. As an AIC fan, I can see how much Godsmack is copying them, but it looks like the Other Side CD is ok, even though anyone who likes it should go out and buy Alice In Chains' "Jar Of Flies" immediately.

First of all let me say Godsmack is one of my favorite bands. I have seen them 3 times already and I am planning on seeing them again with Metallica later this summer. When I heard The Other Side was to be released, I was excited. Godsmack are one of the truely talented bands out there who can play with the best of them and yet never lose their edge. However, The Other Side just didn't trip my trigger. I felt the album was decent and Running Blind is another Godsmack classic. But, The Other Side had so much potential to be better. First of all, they left off some classic songs that I beleive would have made great acoustic versions, Voodoo being a perfect example along with Whatever and Straight Out of Line. The biggest miss was Serenity which has the perfect acoustic sound to it and is a shame a place wasn't found on The Other Side. The other disappointing factor is the fact there are only 7 songs. I mean come on, in this day and age the fans deserve more, espically from a band as great as Godsmack. Why couldn't they have given us another 3 songs at the very least or 5 to 7 songs which would have been perfect and included some of the stuff missing. Alice N' Chains is a perfect example that knew how to produce a high qualitity acoustic album. None the less, Godsmack still rules and they will be around for a long long time. The Other Side is a good CD, just a little short on the number of songs and the fact it is missing some classics. They were so close with this one and yet fell short, thus the 3 starts.
