Having Girly Hobbies Doesn't Make You Less Manly!

Reads R to L (Japanese Style) T audience.

Asuka Masamune is a guy who loves girly things--sewing, knitting, making cute stuffed animals and reading shojo comics. But in a world where boys are expected to act manly, Asuka must hide his beloved hobbies and play the part of a masculine jock instead. Can Asuka ever show his true self to anyone, much less to Ryo Miyakozuka, the girl that he's falling for?

5.0 out of 5 stars Another winner! May 4 2011

Readers will remember that Asuka's mom introduced four new teachers plus Kasuga as the new wave of Ginyuri learning. In this volume, three of the new teachers work very hard to impose the 'new ideals' on students, and each of them has a personal epiphany that is spawned by interactions with Asuka & co. By the end of the volume there's only one remaining teacher and Kasuga that are left to bring around to the students' way of thinking! Go, Team Otomen!

Juta sports a new hairdo briefly (even the author said it didn't suit him, so she went back to the old style); Tonomine makes a few small appearances and seems to be thawing towards our heroes, except where kendo is involved...he's still as brutally anti-Asuka as ever, there. Kitora, Yamato and Ryo basically get the same treatment as usual, and we also get to see Asuka's ex-fiancee Iruka (the one who drugged him back in one of the early volumes). No sign of Freak*Dust in this one :-) except that Yamato sings "Love Crazed" at a mixer.

The only problem I have with Otomen is that Kanno seems to default to a certain hairstyle when she's out of options: the one that Yamato and Juta's sister share. Mr. Mifune, one of the new teachers, also has that fluffy blonde hair. Could we have a teacher with fluffy dark hair? Or a dark Asuka-style hairdo? I'm just hoping no new characters with the fluffy blonde hairdo show up!

All in all I found this to be another great entry in the Otomen lineup and am eagerly waiting for more.
