Self-love is the secret (necessary!) ingredient..., Aug 16 2011
By Marilyn Wann - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Our Family Table (Hardcover)
I'm buying this book because Julie Goodwin turned down Jenny Craig and a $250,000 spokes-dieter deal. I view weight-loss goals as unethical because they are neither safe nor effective. I was so impressed that Goodwin said, "I don't want to be thin. I don't want to be anything different to who I am. I think people have been really willing to embrace me for who I am." Me, too!!!
Even better, she said, "I am less concerned about my weight than about the fact that one in seven people do not have enough food to eat each day and that is why I wanted to be an ambassador for Oxfam Grow. The idea that the world produces enough food to feed everyone but still one in seven don't have enough food to eat - it's not fair and it's not necessary."
This is the kind of politics and compassion and passion that inspires me when I cook. Julie Goodwin's recipes must be fabulous!

NOT REVIEWING THE BOOK, BUT LOVING THE AUTHOR, Aug 13 2011

[..]
I have not read the book and am not a cook, so I offer no information or review for you in that regards.
However, Julie Goodwin did something wonderful today. She told the diet-industrial complex NO. I absolutely love her for this and hope that people will show her the support she deserves. I'm so tired of celebrity deals where people lose weight for a short period of time for a lot of money to lead everyone else down a doomed path.
So I say, Good for You, Julie Goodwin! And thank you on behalf of all us who love the skin we're in! I wish you success in all your endeavors.
