Book Description

Nov. 15 2011
Out Bad is a true story about motorcycle outlaws and modern American police. It begins with the painstakingly assembled, never before told story of the murder of a Mongols Motorcycle Club member named Manuel Vincent "Hitman" Martin. Martin was shot off his motorcycle on the Glendale Freeway in Los Angeles about 2 a.m. on October 8, 2008. Initial reports alleged that Martin had been murdered by the Hells Angels and that he died as part of an ongoing, "furious feud" between the two groups. The truth behind the murder is much more interesting and disturbing than that. Martin died on the final day of a three-year-long, undercover investigation of the Mongols by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The ATF called it "Operation Black Rain." Both Black Rain, and the federal prosecution that followed, were so cynically unfair and corrupt that some Mongols still believe that Martin was actually murdered by government agents. Together, the investigation and the prosecution probably cost $150 million. The initial press coverage of the case was manipulated by the ATF. News of the subsequent legal wrangling was virtually non-existent because the Department of Justice wanted to keep the case as secret as possible. Out Bad, draws on numerous public and confidential sources including numerous sources within the Mongols, the Hells Angels and the ATF to accurately reveal what really happened. Out Bad is a startling ride down a dark road nobody yet knows. Here's your ticket. Climb on. There ain't no seatbelt.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Book on 1%ers April 5 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have almost every book on motorcycle clubs and this is the best one. Most books are wrote by law enforcement agents who lie about their roles in crimes and lie about the bikers they betray. Some are written buy snitches who turn on their brother who can be less trusted then the cops. This is a book that tells the true story about the 1 %ers who if you know any you know they are not all crooks and drug dealers. They are family men, hold steady jobs or own businesses.

The feds always brag at the number of arrests they make but the truth is only a fraction ever sticks. Most crimes in biker investigations are fabricated crimes encouraged by agents. I think this is a must read for all bikers. The truth is out and this book is the truth no matter what club you support or belong too.

5.0 out of 5 stars What an amazing read .. Feb. 22 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have read a few books on the topic and after the "The brotherhood of the Rebels" this is by far the second best book out there, I just started re-reading it again, it is a joy to read for those who appreciate English (specially for ESL's like me :)). It is even a more appealing read for the second time. amazing all around views and makes me want to revise my review to billy Queen book a few notches down.
For a strange reason the literary value of the book written by outlaw far outweighs the value of the one written by the cop ! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars A real eye opener! June 19 2013

An in depth exposure of the frightening level of corruption that law enforcement has fallen to in the persecution of one small group of citizens. I would highly recommend this well written and researched book to anyone who has the stomach to learn the truth!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read! Nov. 27 2011
By Harley Rider - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I got this book Friday evening, started and finished it Sat. This is definitely a must read book. If you have read any of the other books about Biker investigations you need to read this book to hear the other side. If you watch Sons of Anarchy and think that is real life you need to read this book. If you are a concerned citizen and can't believe what you are hearing about the BATF and Fast and Furious, you need to read this book. I live this life and Donald Charles Davis does not pull any punches, he tells the truth about Outlaw Motorcycle clubs, warts and all. I may not be the person you would pick as your next door neighbor, but after reading the conduct of the Law Enforcment in general and the BATF in particular you will want me next door instead of them! Illegal searches, fabricated charges, using the testimony of paid informants who get a bonus per charge, (Do you really think some paid snitch who gets a bonus for everyone he gets charges placed against is going to be exactingly truthful, or is he going to lie his ass off for the big bucks!!)

You need to read this book even if you consider yourself to be a model citizen who would never break the law. Maybe you think we deserve what we get and are one of those people who always say "There should be a law against that." Well now there is, RICO was bad law to begin with, and now it has been twisted and perverted to the point that you don't actually have to break a law to be quilty. Yeah I know this will never happen to you, you belong to the Knights of Colombus and don't even spit on the sidewalk. Well maybe, but consider this, the beauracracy that runs the BATF is self perpetuating, the same people who have no difficulty sending thousands of weapons to mexican drug cartels will not hesitate to use RICO against you if you piss them off, belong to the Tea Party,NRA, VFW, what if they decide you are now a threat, this agency lies, spends hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars, ignores the orders of federal judges and cloaks it's every action in layers of deceit and secrecy, always refusing to release any information about any investigation it is involved in. Can someone say "Secret Police"

This book is well written and well researched by someone who actually knows what he is talking about. He did all the investigation that Julian Sher and Kerri Droban never did, he punctures the cartoon bubble surrounding the action movie heroics of Jay Dobyns and William Queen, and exposes the hand behind the puppet in the Doc Cavazos book. Finally he exposes the Mad Monk who directs all these persecutions out of a mixture of vanity, avarice and a lust for power and fame, John Ciccone. Ciccone is the force behind these investigations, someone with out a soul or empathy for the people he destroys in his quest for glory, in this book he is exposed for the lying, manipulative schemer he really is.

BELIEVE ME, YOU REALLY NEED TO READ THIS BOOK!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Word About the Author Dec 3 2011
By Shooter - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Donald Charles Davis is one of the few writers who has been able to gain a unique insight into the world of 1% motorcycle clubs simply by virtue of the fact he has earned the RESPECT of so many members of these clubs. I have never met Davis but have come to know him through his website, "The Aging Rebel".

"Out Bad" is a meticulously researched book in that Davis attended numerous court hearings, filed FOI documents to obtain information, interviewed several of the principle actors and was even able to get a few comments from Jay Dobyns without having to pay a fee...

What sets "Out Bad" apart from most other books of this genre is the lack of shock effect and sensationalism for their own sake. You can absolutley trust Davis. The majority of books about 1% clubs and the lifestyle are written from an aloof third party POV, mostly by news journalists who always over-commercialize their stories with missives of murder, mayhem, rape, arson, guns ,drugs and jay walking in keeping with the general public's errouneous (but profitable) misconception.

Foget about "Gangland" or "Sons Of Anarachy." If you want an up close and realistic look at the 1% world and the men who have made it their careers to jail them, you have to read "Out Bad." No one comes away looking any better or worse than they truly are.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book finally gets it right Nov. 30 2011
By Oakland Born - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I'm in complete agreement with with the first two reviews,I would also say that I'm one of the heathen.A proud Patch Holder in what is generally described as an Outlaw club.I'll make this brief, forget the books written by ATF agents, please stop watching Gangland and Sons of Anarchy, disregard most of the books-not all, some are actually true-written by former club members. Read "Out Bad".The author has insight from a fresh perspective. That of the members themselves, not the contrived "They're out to terrorize your families and plunder your world" nonsense the public gets saturated with.A good companion book (by the same author) is "The Aging Rebel".The next time I fly by your family Volvo, remember,we're in many ways like you.Proud vet's,family guys, hard working with a strong sense of honor.Read "Out Bad", you will be surprised as to who the REAL bad guys in this country are.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well researched, well written, somewhat disturbing ... a must read. Dec 2 2011
By Rashomon - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is a must read and I'd thoroughly recommend it to anybody who is interested in American culture, specifically motorcycle clubs. It is an honest and straight forward history of the more well-known clubs and the sources of rivalry between them, some of which spills over into the public's view from time to time. It does not portray the club members as choir boys and it not written from the prospective of law enforcement slapping themselves on the back for having saved us, yet again, from this biker menace. It's not sons of anarchy nor is it gangland on the history channel. Simply put, it's as close to the truth as you're likely to find.

What I did find disturbing about this book is the lengths the BATF will go to (and the taxpayer's money that they waste in the process) trying to prosecute these guys. Again, there are club members who do commit crimes and if, after due process, they get convicted and go to jail, so be it. The same applies to all of us - it's called the Constitution. The BATF and other government agencies seem routinely abuse the rights of citizens to a much greater extent than I would have thought possible - and frankly it's disgusting.

In summary, it's a very well researched and well written book although disturbing to read. It really makes me wonder what's happening in our country. Kudos to the author for taking the time to research and write it.

5.0 out of 5 stars What is your government doing? Nov. 28 2011
By AlC - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Does the public at large have any idea of the lengths their government will go to to ensure the police-industrial complex prospers? This book is an eye-opening view into that world, that should be read by anyone associated with any group that could potentially be targeted by the powers that be.
