A truly sad and poignant movie regarding a couple , who despite religious, political and cultural difference decide to try to be together. As can only be done in the gay community. this is a story that just wouldn't work with sta=raight main characters. A whole world against them, this unlikely pairing is an interesting view into a world very few North Americans can understand. We may complain about the problems of being gay in our world, but nothing that has happened to you can prepare you for the astronomical odds against this couple.
As is true in the real world, no one leaves whole, but at least there is still hope. Imagine being on the opposite side of a war from the one you love, where every attempt at seeing each other is frought with potential pain and threat of death. Imagine your own side being more than willing to kill you for the lifestyle you are pursuing. Imagine that what makes you happy could be paid for with the ultimate price of either you or the one you love's life.
I thank God after watching this movie that I have been blessed to live in North America and be a gay man. At least here there is still hope. I am free to date whoever I want here. I might face scorn and even ridicule, but in Israel falling in love with a Palestinian could be the end of not only yourself but your love and your entire family.
A truly brave decision by one of the characters results in hope ... as limited as it might be. It really opens the eyes to an extremely difficult way of life in a very difficult region of the world.
