3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, as long as you don't think too much about it, Nov 10 2011
By Walter E. Kurtz - Published on Amazon.com
This book here is one of many in a series. From what I know, there are hundreds of them and they have a cult following. In this review I will, however, assume that the reader is not familiar with the Executioner books.

The hero of the book is one Mack Bolan, who is half vigilante, half secret agent working for the United States government. His nickname (or codename, I'm not sure) is the "Executioner", because his job is pretty much to kill people.

Mack Bolan is part Rambo, part master chess player, part knight in shiny armor and part Mother Theresa. He is Rambo because he is a super human killer who routinely fights large number of opponents, kills them all and walks away without a scratch. He is a master chess player because he is super smart, always one step ahead of the opposition, always outthinks everyone and he masterfully manipulates his opponents, who always end up doing what he wanted them to do. He is a knight in shiny armor because he is super honorable and has rules he never breaks, such as not killing defenseless opponents. (But he still tortures people.) He is Mother Theresa because despite killing people left and right, he is still full of compassion and good will - unless you are a bad guy, of course.

The plot does not take long to summarize. The Executioner visits Hong Kong to execute an assassin. While doing so, he stumbles on Chinese triad operation in the Australian outback. To make a short store even shorter, he comes to Australia, shuts the smuggling operation down and kills a hundred or so gangsters in the process.

The book is enjoyable, so long as you keep in mind that this is basically a paper equivalent of a cheesy, B-style action movie. I happened to have read a bunch of heavy, intellectual books recently and my brain was begging for some relaxation. So I bought this one and I enjoyed myself.
If you are looking for very light, short, low priced action packed book to take your mind of other matters, then you will probably enjoy Outback Assault - especially if you are a young male.
