Best field knife kit on the market! Bar none!, Jan 16 2012

I bought this knife/saw kit (black handles), used it to field dress / butcher a couple of deer and was thoroughly impressed with what quick work it made. I also used the Steel Stick (brisket spreader) as part of the field dressing process. The gutting blade is the best and easiest I've used; and I've used plenty. It cuts almost no hair since it cuts from the inside out, thus keeping the hair off your meat (what a time-saver). I was so impressed with it that I bought the same set in blaze orange for my buddy as a gift (on sale of course). He was extremely impressed the very first time he used it. This is a great product and I got both sets at a better price from Amazon than anywhere else (believe me, I checked). A big thank you to both Amazon and Outdoor Edge.

Well Thought-Out Design, Dec 3 2011

I like writing these reviews because it gives me a chance to explain some things that I wish were covered in the product description in more detail.
PROS
This is a good knife and a fairly good saw combination. The knife seems to be a well thought-out design. Both blades are sharp & I like how the jimping on the tops of both blades intersect with each other when using the gutting blade. When the skinning blade is folded into the handle, the jimping on the top of that blade becomes a rest for the index finger on the bottom of the handle while your thump rests on the top jimping of the gutting blade. This, combined with the rubberized handles, makes for an extremely secure grip no matter how wet or bloody your hands are when field dressing a deer.
It looks like the saw blade is replaceable. I do not see any individual blaze orange Kodi-Saws being sold but I can buy a black one once this one wears out & then just swap out the handles.
CONS / NEEDS IMPROVEMENTS
This is not exactly blaze orange. It looks more like a softer neon / creamsicle type of orange as opposed to a MANLY blaze orange LOL. That could perhaps be due, in part to the rubbery compound used for the handle material.
The leather sheath was of cheaper quality than I expected. I am a stickler for quality and well-made products because it is a part of my everyday job. There should be fewer rivets & more reinforced stitching. I have had bad luck in the past with riveted belt loops & single stitched sheaths. The belt loop could stand to be a little larger, depending on the end user. You cannot wear it on a 2" or wider web belt, however it does fit the 1.75" belts that I wear.
BIGGEST CON...
Well-made knife... good design.... yet VERY disappointed that all of this stuff is made in China!!!
