1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible Packaging Causing Defective DVD's - DO NOT BUY!, Oct 25 2010

This review is from: Outer Limits - The Complete Season 1 (DVD)
All Alliance DVD sets are defective. Amazon has replaced all sets in Outer Limits and Earth Final Conflict more than 4 times. When I open the box, most DVD's fall out. There are no spindles holding the discs and they are piled on top of each other, rubbing against each other causing severe scratching during shipping. There are flimsy clips holding the edges of only some discs. Someone at Alliance needs to be fired for changing long tested packaging that has worked for the last few decades. In addition, many episodes are edited from the original broadcast version.

1.0 out of 5 stars Edited Edition with Horrible Packaging. Buy the MGM Set for Season One, Dec 13 2010
This review is from: Outer Limits - The Complete Season 1 (DVD)
This set of The (New) Outer Limits Season One is edited for broadcast -- as are *all* available Canadian seasons of this series. These are NOT the episodes shown on Showtime. These are the versions that were shown in syndication. All nudity and "adult language" has been cut. If you're a true fan, buy the American version of The (New) Outer Limits Season One that was released by MGM; all episodes on that set are unedited and as broadcast on Showtime. If you want to own the *rest* of this fine series, there are a few unedited episodes available for download on itunes. Otherwise, you'll have to purchase The (New) Outer Limits on these edited Canadian sets.

The packaging is truly heinous --there's more more than a 70/30 chance at least one of the DVDs in the set will arrive scratched because it came loose in transit due to poor design. 4 sets of different seasons arrived damaged due to heinous package design!!! Again, do not buy this DVD set of The (New) Outer Limits Season One. Buy the imported American version of Season 1 released by MGM, which is packaged to prevent damage BTW.

Note and Big Kudos: AMAZON.CA IS AWESOME AND WILL REPLACE ALL DEFECTIVE/DAMAGED SETS. I can't say this enough: Amazon.ca has the best customer service department in the known internet universe!!! I ordered The (New) Outer Limits Seasons 2 thru 7 in the edited, Canadian editions, *because I wanted the rest of the series in any form.* And wonderful amazon.ca understood the packaging defect and replaced every nasty scratched DVD!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sci-fi series..., Jun 10 2010

This review is from: Outer Limits - The Complete Season 1 (DVD)
"Outer Limits" (2010 release). This is an excellent sci-fi tv series from 1995 which gets even better with season two. The series is reminiscent of "The Twilight Zone". The only downside is with the awkward packaging which puts three discs on one side and three on the other side, with each overlapping the other in the plastic case. It seems impossible to prevent light scratches on the top two discs with the way they are held in place, though the discs played fine. I would actually recommend getting the older release (2005) of the first season which has each disc packaged individually in its own case. Originally only the first season was released in 2005 on DVD, with theme sets completing the collection, so it's great that it appears that each of the seven seasons will now be released individually and at a nice price. At the time of this review a new season was to come out about every month starting in May, with season five scheduled to come out in August, 2010.
