This review is from: Over My Head: A DoctorÂ’s Own Story of Head Injury from the Inside Looking Out (Paperback)
I suffered a brain injury 3 years ago, and have been trying to heal, and this book has presented me with a lot of information that I didn't already knew, which surprised me.

This book opened my eyes to a world in which personality traits and skills are stripped away. It was a riveting tale of the death and birth of two selves and I couldn't put it down. I went through the entire process of shock, denial, mourning, grieving and awakening as she led me through her recovery with skill and empathy. This book should be required reading in any human services program as it applies to stroke and Alzheimer's victims also.

This book forgoes the technical discussion and tells it as it is. Dr Osborn addresses not just her personal Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) but how those close to her reacted. Although it is not a technical book, it provides a very good, down to earth, overview of consequences and responses to TBI. There is drama to spare and bitter sweet triumph. Dr Osborn has taken life's lemons and made lemon aide.
