good investment March 8 2008

I am going to be in Africa teaching English for the next nine months. As a recently certified and very inexperienced ESL teacher, I was looking for something to give me ideas on how to teach and what to teach. I decided to order the Oxford Basics series, and I'm very glad I did. They are FULL of excelent ideas, and I definitely recommend them. If you are going to be teaching in a developing country, as I am, they are almost a necesity. Basically the only thing I will need to teach from this book is a dry erase board and marker. I will still have to supplement some of my own ideas and activities, but this is a great starting point. I would recommend buying the whole series, the books are meant to be used together, and for the price you can't go wrong!
Easy, basic ideas to teach ESOL reading Oct. 23 2012

This series of books contains a number of very basic activities for ESOL teachers. I purchased many in the series to use when I was teaching overseas. They are thin and easy to pack. The activities don't require complicated materials nor are they labor-intensive; just simple, like the title says. You can't plan your lessons around it, but rather I recommend using them to supplement what you are teaching. It is also good when you are stuck and need an activity. I think of it as part of my bag of magic tricks-I can pull out an idea when I need it.
