Product Description

Review

"Absolutely demands to be read aloud; it travels along to the bumpy rhythm of the ox cart . . . excellently translated." — Telegraph Journal

"As accurate as any translation can be . . . a rollicking read that may be truer to the spirit of 18th-century Acadians than many more historically accurate novels." — Atlantic Books Today

From the Publisher

Antonine Maillet's epic vision of Acadie - available in English once again.

I visited GRAND PRE this summer and was totally amazed by the story of that area of the country. I look forward to reading this.

It's OK July 23 2013

It was a history book that the author attempted to but into a novel. I think it would have been a shorter read if it had just been written as a history lesson. That being said, perhaps fewer people would have read it so novel form does draw more readers. It was a good depiction of this Canadian history that Britian should not be proud of and should be written so all will be reminded of the wrong that was done to the Acadians. At times I was not sure what was real or what was an outlandish tale told around the fire at night. I did skip words, paragraphs and had it not been my book club pick for Sept would have set it aside without finishing.
I ordered this book through Amazon.com and delivery was prompt and right to my door in SF. Great service!!
