this works amazing for metering my only dislike is it cant have your kwh cost programed to see the $ figure and no battery back up other than that i would say great product and i think the latest modle they make has the kwh input and batt back up so 5 stars for the newer model

I used this to measure the usage of my 40 year old freezer, and my 21 YO fridge. I was suprised to see how little electricity they each used. However I will check the freezer again when the weather is hotter.

Can be hard to read when plugged into the wall, and looses all measurements when it is unplugged.

Friends want to borrow it to check their appliances.

I think this is a tremendous value. So many of us are uncertain how much power some of our appliances are using, even when they are "off" (such as devices with remote controls, which must maintain power to the receiver in case the remote is used to turn the device "on").

My only disappointment was that all the collected info disappears when you unplug the monitor - there's no "memory" feature, and it's sometimes difficult to see the readout if the unit is plugged in behind an appliance or in a floor outlet (just put a small extension cord between it and the outlet). But for $25, this is still a great buy, a great conversation piece, and something your friends and neighbours will all clamor to borrow (if you ever finish testing all your appliances!)

I was trying to find how many Amps some appliances were drawing , so I could decide on the size of a portable generator I needed to purchase to ensure my home was protected when a power failure came upon us .

We needed the sump pump to work & run the fan on the Natural Gas fire place to heat the house . Thanks to Kill a Watt I made an educated decision that a 1200 watt generator would keep our home safe from water damage & give us enough heat with out spending a fortune on a fancy generator . With funds limited we survived a 40 hr, outage .

Happy Camper

Pro:

Every time I plugged in iron, my circuit breaker tripped. I had some other things running on, hence wanted to know the power consumption so that I can avoid going to the CB panel.

Has all the features I want, and it has helped me figure out how much energy my devices use. For example, now I know my toaster takes about 800 watts and my old laptop takes about 25!
