From Booklist
Dixie, Faith, and Jill are 35-year-old best friends and teachers in the Greenbrier, Arkansas, school system with a plan for the summer: no men. In exchange for companionship at his charity functions, Faith's uncle has lent them his Florida beach house, but during their first week there Dixie is accused of shoplifting by a store owner who then hires her as part-time clerk, Faith hooks up with a much younger man who spends his days surfing, and Jill comes home from the bachelor auction with stars in her eyes, full of details about her very own dreamboat. It looks like the no-man plan needs some revision. Brown's latest chaste contemporary takes cues from two movies:
Steel Magnolias and
Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. With the three women identifying themselves alternately with characters from each film, readers who haven't viewed them may find the references meaningless, but overall this is a pleasantly light and breezy read.
