Another Haunting Tale that Advocates for Action,
By
This review is from: PRICELESS (Paperback)
Priceless is the second book Tom Davis writes based on his field work around the world assisting children who are powerless. In his first novel Scared he wrote about the AIDS-stricken children in Africa; in Priceless, he talks about the dark world of human-trafficking and forced prostitution in Eastern Europe, particularly, Russia. After reading Scared, I came to read Priceless with extremely high expectations. The book did not surprise me - like the first book, it records authentically and honestly the haunting tales of young girls who were tricked or forced into the dark world of human trafficking and forced prostitution. Based on Davis' first-hand experience working with those who have been rescued from such hideous crimes, Priceless tells a very disturbing story that some readers would find very difficult to comprehend, much less accept to be happening. But the book does not stop at painting a bleak and hopeless picture. Just as its title suggests, the lives of these young girls are priceless, and worth every effort in rescuing. Unlike the AIDS-stricken children where our help can be relatively easily given, the work to rescue young girls from the claws of human trafficking is a lot more difficult, not to mention extremely dangerous. Nevertheless, Davis continues to advocate for action, and provides some concrete ways that we can help. The book can be independently read on its own, but I would recommend everyone to purchase both novels and read them back-to-back. They are haunting tales told with authenticity and honesty. Davis hopes to empower his readers to do something about the injustice that is happening all around the world; I hope after reading these novels, you would be empowered as well.

Priceless,

"This is what the devil does to little girls."That line will hit you like a punch in the gut as you read the latest novel from Tom Davis, the president and CEO of Children's HopeChest. I try not to write reviews immediately after finishing a book because the reaction can be too raw, too emotional to offer a balanced approach to what I've just read. In this case, a raw, emotional response is exactly what's required. Priceless is the story of Stuart Daniels whom we met in Davis' previous novel SCARED. This time, photographer Daniels is on assignment in Russia when he gets swept into rescuing young girls from the underground sex slavery trade. Young girls who are primaily orphans that the rest of the world has either forgotten or turned a blind eye towards. If this were simply a novel, I might be tempted to think of it as hyperbole, the product of an overactive imagination by an author with an agenda. Sadly, this is not hyperbole, and author Davis is all too familiar with the horrors of the sex trafficking industry as part of his work with HopeChest. Just like SCARED, Priceless left me angry at the animals who perpetuate the sex trade and profoundly sad for the young girls whose innocence is stolen from them at the time of their greatest need. To call Priceless a great read is to imply that it is simply entertainment intended to while away a few hours. Yes, it is well written and difficult to put down, but this book will do far more than entertain...it will educate you and hopefully motivate you to learn more, to become involved in the fight against sex trafficking and the plight of orphans wherever they may be. As with Scared, I recommend you get a copy of Priceless immediately and immerse yourself in this story about the dark world of sex-trafficking. Even here you will find the light of redemption - and you just might discover that God is calling you to be that light.

Get ready to be changed!,

This review is from: PRICELESS (Paperback)
Priceless is the second book by Tom Davis with the subtitle "A Novel on the Edge of the World" and like Scared it will also keep you on the edge of your seat.Priceless opens wide a window to view the reality of sex trafficking. As much as I didn't want to see the depths of the darkness and degradation young women are subjected to I couldn't stop reading. What made me even more uncomfortable was that this evil was flourishing under the hand of someone posing as a man of God. God's light is always found, even more so in such darkness. Do not begin reading this book if you do not want to be forever changed. You will be moved to weep, to pray and to speak out for the rights of those who have been unable to speak for themselves.
