Product Description

Based on Holling C. Holling s beloved Caldecott-awarded children s book, William Mason s stunning film follows the adventures of a tiny, wood-carved canoe as it forges its own path from Lake Superior through the Great Lakes and down to the Atlantic Ocean. Buoyed by beautiful photography and a sense of true wonder about the sun, Earth, and water, the Academy Award nominated Paddle to the Sea is an unforgettable tribute to the forces of the natural world, as well as a thrilling journey across the waves and rapids of North America.

I love this video! I borrowed it from the local library and we don't want to take it back so I decided to buy it. My son and I have watched it every day for a week. It is so beautiful. It takes you into a magical world. It is so much better than the flashy cartoons you get so often. This is the best kids video we have ever found. I wish it weren't so expensive. This video will delight you if you have any sense of the beauty of nature and the magic world of a child's imagination.

The director, Bill Mason, has become my favourite film maker of all time. Waterwalker, The Voyageurs, Pukaskwa, Song of the Paddle, Rise and Fall of the Great Lakes, Wolfpack, Cry of the Wild and Path of the Paddle are all incredible and worth finding.

Paddle to the Sea is based on the classic book by the same name and is amazing work on its own. A small wooden canoe is depicted floating from high ground above Lake Superior all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. Highly reccomended!!

I saw this in grade 1 or grade 2 at Malmo Elementary School in Edmonton in the early seventies. I never forgot this film and was wondering what it was called. I recently borrowed Waterlife (from Mongrel Media) and it has Paddle to the Sea as a bonus. I actually watched Paddle to the Sea from that DVD to check out if it was indeed the film I saw almost 40 years ago. I recommend that buyers go for that DVD ($24) to get a two for one.
