"Pain & Gain"the movie that some people think was painful to watch,i totally disagree
with their assumption, you can almost tell from their review they never took the time
to actually understand what has transpired to the moral of the actual story, when these
three ambitious thieves,i will call them thieves and nothing else, decide to chase the
American dream so to say, kidnapped the said character of the movie [Tony Shalhoub]
and try to torture him into signing all his life savings away to them, but the true nature
of this movie is that the police when it was explain to them what had happen could not
accept what had happen because of who he was, until one retired detective decide to
investigate the case, now these three clowns not only held him against his will they
also Killed Two People that i find absolutely not funny, now you people mite think this
movie was suppose to be funny even the critics and the writing on the back of this case
called it an hilarious action comedy,i beg to differ,i call this a bloody tragedy,if anyone
would think this to be funny not only that,Michael Bay did a bad job at this you're so wrong,
he actually showed what these three were made of,would you believe one of them is
on the street to this day,i hope he tells one of you reviewers how funny is was one day.

This is a true story that reads like dumb crook news. Daniel Lugo (Mark Wahlberg) is a muscle headed body builder who is inspired in ironic fashion by unorthodox motivational speaker Johnny Wu (Ken Jeong). With the aid of two other body builders, Paul Doyle (Dwayne Johnson) and Adrian Doorbal (Anthony Mackie) they devise a plan to kidnap and extort money from Colombian businessman Victor Kershaw (Tony Shalhoub).

They fumble their way through the operation and become greedy. It is clear these guys were not bright. The writers created dialouge for these crooks in order to lighten the story and to keep them from looking like complete idiots. Fictional aspects such as making the nurse (Rebel Wilson) look heavy-set with portraying Doorbal as liking those type of women kept the story from becoming dry.

The beginning of the film demonstrates some humor as Danny names fictional characters as his heroes..."There are no shortcuts to the American dream" he proclaims. In spite of the efforts made by the writers, the film somehow loses its hook and charm as you wait for it to end.

Parental Guide: F-bombs, sex, and nudity. Porn star Nikki Benz is one of the unnamed strippers.

After seeing the trailers for this I thought it was going to be junk but after seeing it on a whim I am glad I did. An excellent movie that shows us what transpired in the early 90s with the Sun Gym gang (albeit a few things are added in for comedic effect). The fact that for the most part it stays true to the actual story makes it much more compelling and disturbing as the movie goes along.

Well worth a watch!

The first time I saw it, it was not what I expected. I watched it again, and Dwayne Johnson is amazing in this great movie.

The condition of the DVD I received was just like new

I was expecting so much more out of this movie because of the cast. I'm a big fan of Mark Wahlberg and I like most of the movies with Dwayne Johnson, so I bought this movie with great expectations but it failed miserably in so many levels. The casting seemed perfect, the trailer seemed so good and being based on a true story seemed to make this a good enough reason to buy the movie. All those misleading "seemed" good and perfect turned out to be a big setback.

If this is meant to be a comedy, well it failed. Actually, it should not even be a comedy due to the subject matter. That was probably the biggest failure of them all. It's not funny, it's just a meaningless ridiculous mockery of a dramatic situation.

Pain & Gain is just about right for this movie's title. It's a pain to watch with nothing to gain! If I would have to give one word to describe my emotions after viewing this movie, it would be : Disappointed.

I gave it a 2/5 because I still have faith in Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson. Hopefully this is the last time I see them in such a disastrous movie; one can only hope.
