Product Description

Easy-to-follow, step-by-step demonstrations in acrylic, watercolor and oil

Inside, you'll learn how to create realistic wildlife paintings, step by step, mastering dozens of specific wildlife textures, including:

  • Fur of a bobcat, American bison, snow leopard cub and wolf

  • Feathers of a wood duck, white-throated sparrow and northern shoveler

  • Scales of a trout and sunfish

  • Ears of a cottontail rabbit, white-tailed deer and red fox

  • Bills and Muzzles of a northern cardinal, mallard, great blue heron and mountain lion

  • Tails and Feet of a red squirrel, ruffled grouse and blue jay

  • Antlers and Horns of a deer, moose, bighorn sheep and pronghorn

  • White and Black Subjects such as a polar bear, tundra swan and Canada goose

Through, you'll benefit from Rod Lawrence's years of wildlife painting experience. He'll help you notice, for example, the way hair and feature textures change on different parts of an animal's body through the seasons - and even according to the age of the animal.

Use this heightened awareness, along with the easy-to-follow, step-by-step demonstrations inside, to create more realistic, more sensitive wildlife paintings.

1.0 out of 5 stars Reprint, Jan 25 2011

This review is from: Painting Wildlife Step by Step: Learn from 50 demonstrations how to capture realistic textures in watercolor, oil and acrylic (Paperback)
"Painting Wildlife Step by Step" is a reprint of Rod Lawrence's book, "Painting Wild Life Textures Step by Step" released in 1997. They used a different picture on the front and changed the name to make it look like a new release. It seems dishonest to do this without notifying the buying public of what they are doing. I was anxious to get the new book but very disappointed when I realized what they did. Now I have two books with the same pictures and information. I feel ripped off. There was no notice of a reprint on the write-up, when I ordered.

2.0 out of 5 stars Reprint with Different Title and Cover Image, Jan 26 2011
By Snug - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Painting Wildlife Step by Step: Learn from 50 demonstrations how to capture realistic textures in watercolor, oil and acrylic (Paperback)
I have Rod Lawrence's older 1997 book entitled: Painting Wild Life Textures Step-by-Step, which has a Wolf Image on the cover, and I give his book five stars for his detailed written and visual instructions. HOWEVER, when I received his "new" book pictured above with a different title and cover image I thought I was purchasing a book with new material inside. It's the same book as the one published in 1997!! No new material/substance, just a couple photos (but same photos used as before) rearranged in the begining of the book. There was no indication that this book was a reprint. I also feel deceived.

2.0 out of 5 stars book buying experience reduced to buyer beware, April 12 2011
By Susan Novreske "book reader" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Painting Wildlife Step by Step: Learn from 50 demonstrations how to capture realistic textures in watercolor, oil and acrylic (Paperback)
I have taken to sleuthing the copyright page when Search Inside is available for clues about the new publishing trend: take an OOP volume, slap with new cover art and titling, keep new book's guts the same as original volume and sell it to unsuspecting public. It becomes too bad for the buyer if you own that original book - now you can own two.

It is beyond me why a reputable author would agree to have this done to their work. I have no issue with reprinting a volume proven popular but out of print, I thought that's why they were to be called 2nd editions etc. This repackaging of a book as new content when it most certainly isn't will keep me from buying online.
