Product Description

Product Description

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FP1 Point & Shoot Digital Camera - 12.1 Megapixel - 2.70\" Active Matrix TFT Color LCD - Green DMC-FP1G Digital Cameras

From the Manufacturer

The flat body and compact size of the DMC-FP1 allow it to fit nicely into a small handbag. Built of high-quality aluminum, the DMC-FP1 also brings a wide range of colors to the series. The new lens cover both protects the lens from scratches or dusts and serves as the camera's power switch, making it fast and easy to slip the camera out of a pocket or a bag and turn on the power.

Lumix DMC-FP1 Highlights

4x Optical Zoom / Up to 7.8x Extra Optical Zoom
The DMC-FP1 has a 4x optical zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 35-140mm) and 7.8x Extra Optical Zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 273mm). Adding the Extra Optical Zoom to the 4x digital zoom extends the total zooming power to a maximum of 31.3x.

Panasonic Lumix digital camera highlights
Sonic Speed AF
The Sonic Speed AF system in the DMC-FP1 has a maximum speed of approx. 0.33 second for auto focusing*. It includes numerous re-engineering enhancements, including a higher-speed actuator, optimized algorithms and parallel software processing. The result is fast and accurate AF performance. You can quickly get moving subjects in focus, such as when you're shooting sports scenes.
* Using the 1-area AF, at the wide-end.

HD Movie Recording
The DMC-FP1 can record motion images in high-definition (1,280 x 720 pixels at 30 fps in Motion JPEG format). The pixel mixed readout method enables bright motion-image recording even in low-light settings. The DMC-FP1 can also record full-size motion images in WVGA (848 x 480 pixels at 30 fps) or standard motion images in VGA (640 x 480 pixels at 30 fps) and QVGA (320 x 240 pixels at 30 fps).

Venus Engine IV
The image-processing engine, Venus Engine IV, uses advanced signal processing to give you beautiful images even when the sensitivity is high. Multi-task signal processing is employed for all images to enable high-speed, high-performance shooting. Venus Engine IV also effectively raises the precision of various functions, such as MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer) and Intelligent ISO Control. Along with its extremely high performance, Venus Engine IV reduces power consumption thanks to a number of energy efficiency improvements.

Extended Battery Life
The energy-saving Venus Engine IV image-processing engine and the efficient, rechargeable lithium-ion battery which has been slimmed down to fit into thinner camera bodies work together to extend the shooting time of the DMC-FP1. This lets users take approx. 300 shots on a single battery charge*.
* Based on the CIPA standard.

Very user friendly, and feature rich. Sept. 4 2010

Many advantages, in portability and ease of use.
The battery is easy to charge and retains a charge for days.
Requires on a couple hours to fully charge, and being a lithium cartridge, don't have to keep track of batteries, just the charger and the cartridge.

Also, the camera takes great movies as well as stills.
I like that the camera doesn't have a button for movie function, but is embedded in the menu controls. So prevents from accidentally recording in movie mode, but you must intentionally set the mode to movie. Of course, then you must remember to set it back to stills if you require.

Also the flash works well, and flash override options are available, for forced off or on.

I recommend purchasing a 4 GB or 8 GB SD card, then you will have plenty of room for movies and stills, as the cameras internal memory is limited. 8 GB gives you about 1200 stills at 12 MB resolution, of course movies will eat up more space.

I like that there is no lens to wait on motoring or telescoping out. You just slide the cover down, point and shoot. Very easy to take quick snaps.

Works as Advertised Aug. 4 2010

I received the Lumix DMC-FP1 (green) two days ago. It has done everything I read about on the Panasonic and Amazon websites. The controls are much easier to use than my previous two digital cameras. I like having lots of buttons, which enables you to access more features directly, without having to go through menu trees.

My only criticism relates to the amazing complexity of user options, both for taking pictures and for playing them back. Because of all these features, it becomes a lot more difficult to learn the basics. The operating manual (which comes in PDF format on the enclosed CD-ROM), is (in my humble opinion) very poorly organized. It immediately dives into the complexities, rather than beginning at a novice level and later providing details (for those who want them) in an organized and logical manner.

The camera is shipped with a short introductory operating manual, which explains how to use "point-and-shoot". If you want to do more than that, though, you've got to wade through the CD-ROM version.

Summary: great camera, easier to use than many, great picture quality, but way too many options, confusingly presented in a complex operating manual. Excellent product for the price. (Oh, and when you buy a memory card, be sure to get "Class 6" or higher or you won't be able to record HD video.) I should also add that if you just want to point-and-shoot, it is very easy to do...just push the "iA" button, then the shutter button, and you are done. If you want to do more than that, it becomes complicated very quickly.

Great little camera for everyday snapshots June 11 2010

Color Name: Green Verified Purchase
My 11 year old daughter selected and purchased this camera, and I think she made a great choice.

The things she likes about this camera are:
* Color. This is very important in her childish priorities, and this one is beautiful bright green.
* Nice pictures. So far she's had very few blurry, too dark, or too light snapshots.
* Video performance. This camera will easily take several minutes of video, and allows zooming in/out during recording.
* Easy point-and-shoot operation.
* Sliding lens cover. No "eyelash" lens cover to break, no lens cap to fiddle with.
* Small size fits easily in jacket pocket, etc.
* A price even an 11-year old can love.

I received this camera yesterday and I love it! So small and cute, but with a huge screen. My pics look great! It was so easy to use out of the box, that I never even glanced at the directions and had no problems using it effectively. Get the green color! Looks adorable. I think I will buy Panasonic products from now on.

No more research needed Dec 31 2010

Color Name: Green Verified Purchase
I recently purchased this camera for my daughter. However, two months ago SHE purchased this same camera as a birthday gift for ME. She researched and researched: Consumer Reports, Epinions, Consumer Critics ad infinititum and the Panasonic Lumix is what whe came up with. I'm glad she did. It's so easy to learn, so easy to operate, takes beautiful pictures, and no doubt does many other fascinating things that I know nothing about. So when the time came for me to buy her a Christmas present, I knew the perfect gift; I knew exactly where to purchase it (Amazon--delivery two days) and I didn't spend even one minute on research. By the way, did I mention that the camera comes in several beautiful colors?
