Panasonic NNSD-698S counter top microwave. The door latch breaks easily (online complaints are numerous); and the unit will therefore not turn on. If you have proof that you are in the 2-year warranty period this is a "Product Exchange Program" item; your microwave will be replaced because (now, GET THIS) it costs more to fix the door latch than it does for them to give you a new microwave!?! Mine was almost 3 years old so - lucky me - I get nothing - except Panasonic's condescending attitude when I called them. In their words "... it will be cheaper for you to buy a new microwave than for you to get it fixed..". So the repair job is MORE than $250.00 (but, the repair shop cannot get the part from them). They could NOT answer my questions or concerns: (1) why did they not respond to the repair shops repeated faxes? (2) why does their product cost $150+ more than any other company's product? (3) why do they sell products, at premium prices, that (a) break easily and then (b) cannot be repaired? Suffice it to say the phone call to customer service was infuriating. I replaced this microwave with a similar one from LG which I actually find to be much better; it has more settings and does a superior job defrosting. The LG stainless model was only $129!

I received this microwave as a gift and it broke after 16 months of use. I had to learn the hard way that without a receipt the company does not offer ANY compensation.. So if you are buying as a gift make sure to give the receipt!! Furthermore the inverter technology looses efficiency with time. Due to its unreliable inverter technology and short life span I strongly recommend you buy a cheaper microve (from another company)and save your money.

SURPRISE SURPRISE right around the 2yr warranty time it stops working, depending how many times you want to open and close the door you might get it to turn on 1 out of 5 times then after a couple weeks Kaput done no lights nothing tried calling Panasonic, SEARS where we bought it you are basically on your own, they are not interest there is NO CUSTOMER service anymore basically told to buy another one the cost is too high to repair. We paid good money for a good PANASONIC product from what we thought was a reputable Company SEARS, you will get better assistance and warranty from WALMART - they back their products and they're customer service people have some courtesy towards their customers - not a attitude of too bad you bought it now live with it attitude. thanks but I will be spending my money elsewhere I did not know this was a throwaway product when we purchased that I would need to replace every two years - hope this helps save someone else the headache

While this unit is very powerful and very quiet, the defrost mode, as well as some automated programs, do not work. It is like the internal software crashes. For example, after a defrost cycle, the unit will get extremely hot and will then shut down. I then need to unplug it and reset it. I called Panasonic and will most likely end up replacing the unit (Panasonic has a good warranty), hoping that the new unit will not have the same issues though...

My wife in a panic asked me to open or to fix Microwave door on March 7 as the as latch had failed to open as described in the previous reviews. Google revealed in Fix.ya "Shut off the power", then once the SS cover is removed you will see the broken piece.
It is a black plastic piece at the bottom rear of the front control panel. This piece has two little spindles on either side and one broke from the strain of pushing the outside panel release. The part was available from a local larger appliance parts depot "Reliable Parts" in Coquitlam, B.C. Canada cost approx. $5:00 It was not the easiest (time consuming) to install as both sides of the control panel had to push outward as same time to push the little part in place. It is now operational again but will probably buy another brand in the future
