TOP 500 REVIEWER
Panasonic NNSD-698S counter top microwave. The door latch breaks easily (online complaints are numerous); and the unit will therefore not turn on. If you have proof that you are in the 2-year warranty period this is a "Product Exchange Program" item; your microwave will be replaced because (now, GET THIS) it costs more to fix the door latch than it does for them to give you a new microwave!?! Mine was almost 3 years old so - lucky me - I get nothing - except Panasonic's condescending attitude when I called them. In their words "... it will be cheaper for you to buy a new microwave than for you to get it fixed..". So the repair job is MORE than $250.00 (but, the repair shop cannot get the part from them). They could NOT answer my questions or concerns: (1) why did they not respond to the repair shops repeated faxes? (2) why does their product cost $150+ more than any other company's product? (3) why do they sell products, at premium prices, that (a) break easily and then (b) cannot be repaired? Suffice it to say the phone call to customer service was infuriating. I replaced this microwave with a similar one from LG which I actually find to be much better; it has more settings and does a superior job defrosting. The LG stainless model was only $129!

I received this microwave as a gift and it broke after 16 months of use. I had to learn the hard way that without a receipt the company does not offer ANY compensation.. So if you are buying as a gift make sure to give the receipt!! Furthermore the inverter technology looses efficiency with time. Due to its unreliable inverter technology and short life span I strongly recommend you buy a cheaper microve (from another company)and save your money.

While this unit is very powerful and very quiet, the defrost mode, as well as some automated programs, do not work. It is like the internal software crashes. For example, after a defrost cycle, the unit will get extremely hot and will then shut down. I then need to unplug it and reset it. I called Panasonic and will most likely end up replacing the unit (Panasonic has a good warranty), hoping that the new unit will not have the same issues though...
