Product Description

From Booklist

In this exploitation of the story-within-a-story device, the dwarf Garroc Ghosts-Skald, who has the dubious gift of being able to hear the voices of ghosts, appears, in the midst of the witch wars, on the doorstep of his foster son's daughter. As the woman tends him and his injured companion, Garroc relates the story of her father, Hinthan, and the quest to find and rescue a king's secret son and heir. It's a tale of heroism vs. black magic in which Garroc and his companions outwit assassins, dodge shifting alliances, and battle religious fanatics who have come to Wales with the spread of Christianity. Berberick delivers a Celtic tale rich in tradition, warmly drawn characters, and nonstop action. Readers of heroic fantasy, especially fans of Arthurian legends, will demand a sequel. Candace Smith

Ingram

In a time when the swords of kings are raised against their own sons, the life of a young human prince rests in the hands of the songmaker Garroc, who is bound by honor to lead the prince to safety.

5.0 out of 5 stars berberick rules, Aug 24 1999

This review is from: Panthers Hoard (Paperback)
when people ask why you read sword & sorcery, point to berberick. She does the Old Englishy stories with the technical proficiency of 'The Broken Sword' or the Inklings. Her characters are good people and her macguffins are magic.
