Book Description

June 1 2012 Sewing for Real People series
This pattern book features step-by-step instructions on fitting and sewing pants for women of all body types using the twin techniques of tissue fitting and fabric fitting. Important sewing choices are highlighted, including choosing fabrics, selecting appropriate alteration tools, and finding styles that are most flattering. The fit-as-you-sew process of making pants is illustrated with progressive photographs and step-by-step illustrations. A variety of styles are covered, including nonroll, expandable, and contour waistbands; side seam and patched pockets; and easy hems and cuffs. This updated second edition features refinements to the fitting and sewing information and has added instructions on the fitting and sewing of jeans and no-side-seam pants.

Bien illustré, explications complètes. Toutefois pas à la portée de novices en couture de vêtements. J'ai résolu des problèmes que je rencontrais dans la couture de pantalons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful Oct. 7 2012

A great book for understanding pattern alterations and achieving the best fit possible for not 6'2", 8% body fat people.
Although the book is written for women, men's sewers can also find some good tricks in it.
I just love the way it's illustrated and the ease of following instructions.
I bought this book along http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008GI0I8C metric pattern cutting for menswear, for a suit project (with very expensive fabric) I wanted to start and I must say it came amazing, best pants I've ever had.

5.0 out of 5 stars So helpful and easy to follow! March 14 2013
By Linda C. Murphy - Published on Amazon.com

I am a teach-myself-to-sew person as I do not have any person or educational center near me to help me out. And there is so much information out there on sewing! But I find most of it is geared towards more skilled levels or more generic information. I had decided to stick to one type of garment to develop my skills with; decided on pants, since I am hard to fit in that area, and bounced all over the place to find information. I was pleased, after much searching, to find this easy to follow book on pattern alteration for pants. Once I master my pants, I plan to use their other books to increase my skills in other areas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fitting book Feb. 13 2013
By Kathryn Dane - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have made my own clothes, pants included, for most of my life. Although I have several books on fitting, this is among the best of them. Marta goes into great detail in pin fitting both the pattern and the cloth garment. One thing I wish she had touched on is how the garments fit the models in positions other than standing up. A garment that is fitted to a standing model, may or may not feel comfortable when the model is sitting or squatting. The Palmer Pletsch method of fitting clothing has been around, tested, revised and tested again. The models in the book are not pencil thin, tall perfectly proportioned professional models, but ordinary women, both young and mature, whose bodies have a variety of shapes and fitting challenges. I find this a very helpful fitting aid.

2.0 out of 5 stars Tough to use on a Kindle and difficult to follow April 17 2014
By Silver Spring Wanderer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really liked Fit for Real People, but I struggled with following the fitting instructions in this book. I've found other resources online that made more sense for me. Also, this type of book doesn't really lend itself to the kindle format very well, at least not for me. I like to flip back and forth, which is hard with the Kindle edition. That is my fault for not thinking through how I would use the book, but just a warning for those who are similarly inclined.
