Papa Roach is a breed apart in the nearly overfull rap-rock arena. The Northern California-bred quartet lacks the bluster of Limp Bizkit and the political agenda of Rage Against the Machine, instead serving up an ultra-intense, highly personal brand of funk-punk-rock-rap on their stunning major-label debut. Closer in spirit to Faith No More than Korn, Papa Roach's signature sound is defined by Coby Dick's raspy, forceful vocals. Dick's pointed lyrics astutely address everything from divorce ("Broken Home") and attention deficit disorder ("Thrown Away") to alcoholism ("Binge"). Jerry Horton's memorable, melodic, and insinuating guitar lines and the band's aggro, moshable rhythms provide added weight. Papa Roach's intensity is never forced; the songs here are varied, discrete, tuneful, and cohesive. Indeed, the mellow, reggae- like "Tightrope" is as compelling as the commanding "Last Resort," making Infest one of the most arresting heavy-music debuts of 2000. -- Katherine Turman

First, I gotta say two things. One, stop comparing this band to Limp Bizkit! They don't sound like Limp Bizkit at all, and they're way, way better anyway. Second, they did not [copy] Iron Maiden! As a huge fan of both bands, and a guitarist (well, I play a little bit), I can tell you that the riffs on those songs are not taken from Iron Maiden. The guitar in "Last Resort" and "Between Angels and Insects" is done in a lower tuning than Maiden, which makes for a completely different tone, and plus "Last Resort" doesn't even sound like any part of "Hallowed Be Thy Name". "Angels.." sounds a little bit like "The Prowler", but it's a deeper tone, and barely the same. The only thing that really sounds like Maiden is on "Revenge", but again it's a deeper sound. So, that's that...P>So, moving on. This album is perfect. The metal and rap elements are blended together expertly, and the lyrics (well, most of them) are very meaningful. There isn't a bad song on here at all. I'd say "Binge" is probably the best, but man they're all good. Just buy it, it's great stuff. But, I think "Lovehatetragedy" will be even better. I can't wait.

I am one of the many real Papa Roach fans, by that i mean, i like all their music and ive been lucky enough to see them in concert, they were amazing and the concert featured songs from their first major album Infest and their second album Lovehatetragedy. Both albums are amazing! Both are worth getting, however they are both different. The first album contains more rap..which is great, (e.g Revenge, Snakes) and the hidden track after Thrown Away called Tight rope is amazing! At first i didn't recognize who it was by, because Coby sounds so different, the song sounds more melodic and its different to Papa Roaches usual style.I wont go through every single song on both albums, but Infest and Lovehatetragedy are 2 of the best albums i have. Here are some of my favourite songs on both albums:
Infest:
Infest-great opening to the album
Last Resort-their first single? An amazing song
Broken home-one of the best on the album
Between Angels & Insects-this song was sensational in concert
Blood Brothers-love the whole song
Lovehatetragedy:
Time and TIme again-so catchy!
Walking thru barbed wire-one of the best songs on the album
Decompression period-a depressing song that means alot
She loves me not-a funky tune lol with a cool rap part
Black Clouds-great again
Bonus tracks gouge away and never said it are great!!!
(Someone called josh said that he can't believe kids actually like papa roach and give it 5 stars, well maybe he should try spelling first :p nothin personal but p-roach rock, sorry if u can't handle the album-you should leave the real paparoach fans to rate it!) P.s PAPAROACH AREN POISON :P THEY RULE AND CAN ACTUALLY SING.

this is the best rock album i've ever heard. It's a musthave. All of the songs are excellent. Here's the score i gave to each and everyone of them:
1. Infest: 10/10 a great opening song. the song with the best lyrics
2. Last Resort: 8/10 A great song but gets kind of old after a while
3. Broken Home: 4/10 My least favorite song on the album. It's good though
4. Dead Cell: 4/10 I always skip this song. It's just plain boring
5. Between angels & insects: 6/10 Good song. Great Video.
6. Blood Brothers: 10/10 One of the best songs on the album. This is one of the main reasons you should have this album.
7. Revenge: 10/10 My favorite song on the album. Definitely the most powerful song on the whole album. Somehow it got me through tough times
8. Snakes: 9/10 Great song. Interesting lyrics
9. Never Enough: 9/10 Finally something different. This song doesnt sound like all the others and it's really good
10. Binge: 10/10 My 2nd favorite song. A really emotional song
11. Thrown Away: 10/10 You MUST hear this song. It's the heaviest on the album followed by a nice slow rock song
* Hidden Track (Tight Rope): 10/10 A masterpiece
Papa Roach-Infest is a musthave album.

Oh yeah, this is it. This is the record that displays pure nu-metal, it blew me away, that's right, it did blow me away.
I would like to start off by staying that this is an excellent cd, although it's style differs greatly from it's follow-up "lovehatetragedy". Most of the songs on this record are about suicide, boozy and anti-socialism, but believe me, p-roach are not out here to destory the world, they just want to make good music for us.
Standout tracks on this album include "Last Resort" "Dead Cell" and "Between Angels and Insects", each containing a considerable amount of rapping, this maybe annoying to some people. More melodic and mellow tracks include "Binge" and the secret track "Tight Rope", these display and hints what is around the corner of their next cd "lovehatetragedy". The cd starts with a grand opening of "Infest" and concludes with the ultra-heavy and scream-loaded "Thrown Away", all into one powerful album.
This is the record which displays pure nu-metal, and it definitely should not be missed out!
