Product Description

Papa Roach is a breed apart in the nearly overfull rap-rock arena. The Northern California-bred quartet lacks the bluster of Limp Bizkit and the political agenda of Rage Against the Machine, instead serving up an ultra-intense, highly personal brand of funk-punk-rock-rap on their stunning major-label debut. Closer in spirit to Faith No More than Korn, Papa Roach's signature sound is defined by Coby Dick's raspy, forceful vocals. Dick's pointed lyrics astutely address everything from divorce ("Broken Home") and attention deficit disorder ("Thrown Away") to alcoholism ("Binge"). Jerry Horton's memorable, melodic, and insinuating guitar lines and the band's aggro, moshable rhythms provide added weight. Papa Roach's intensity is never forced; the songs here are varied, discrete, tuneful, and cohesive. Indeed, the mellow, reggae- like "Tightrope" is as compelling as the commanding "Last Resort," making Infest one of the most arresting heavy-music debuts of 2000. -- Katherine Turman

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent. Few Slips. June 2 2002
Format:Audio CD
Papa Roach's debut disc, Infest, is your average rap/metal album:hate-driven lyrics about the world and songs of "Broken Home"s. I don't see why this album's averaged rating is so bad. This is a really good CD. But there is a few bad songs. You'll see.
1.Infest-1/5-I don't like this. Boring beginning and overall bad song.
2.Last Resort-4/5-Yeah, you've heard it. Would've been a 5, but I've listened to it too much.
3.Broken Home-4/5-I think this is pretty much Coby Dick's past. Sad...but, it's a good song. Cool guitar intro.
4.Dead Cell-5/5-This is the best song here. The whole thing's fast. Rap/Metal at it's finest.
5.Between Angels and Insects-4/5-This song's OK. Nothing else to say.
6.Blood Brothers-5/5-I know you heard this on the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 soundtrack, so I won't put anything.
7.Revenge-5/5-This is a very dark song about a girl "abused with forks, knives and razorblades" getting...revenge!
8.Snakes-4/5-This is a dark song, too. More rap than rock, but still some rock. Thank God.
9.Never Enough-5/5-I like the guitar solo at the beginning. The versed are very...different. Good sound. 2nd best.
10.Binge-1/5-I've listened to this once and didn't like it, so I can't review it.
11.Thrown Away-1/5-See #11.
Overall, this is a good effort from Papa Roach. Get it if you like Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, POD, or Crazy Town.

2.0 out of 5 stars No Impressed May 26 2002
Format:Audio CD
At first I like Papa Roach but once you start listening to them for a while they get old and boring. They are just trying to be a depressed-rock-rap group. This cd isn't very original and if you haven't heard it you aren't missing much.

1.0 out of 5 stars This band must be stopped... March 10 2002
Format:Audio CD
...I know there is nothing wrong with the Roach, they keep it real y'know, they make a lot of kids happy, etc. But they're really really bad. And maybe Coby Dick had an awful life, but the whining quality of his lyrics and vocals deprive you of any sympathy... unless, of course, you're feeling, like, down, man, cos life's a real bummer. This irrational dislike may be entirely due to 2 things; the horrific overplaying of "Last Resort" on [a] 7-tracks-over-and-over-again-all-day playlist. And Coby Dick's stupid dancing on the "Between Angels and Insects" video (shallow, me?!). Good things? Um, the last 20 seconds of Broken Home are great - no no don't buy the CD for that alone. God, please please don't. Papa Roach are marketed as a mix of metal, punk and rap. If you want metal, try Amen. Punk? The Clash. Rap? Don't know. Sorry. But just avoid this like a ferocious pitbull. Or, for that matter, an unferocious whinging guy called Coby Dick.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sorry folks, but this album's perfect. March 25 2002
Format:Audio CD
First, I gotta say two things. One, stop comparing this band to Limp Bizkit! They don't sound like Limp Bizkit at all, and they're way, way better anyway. Second, they did not [copy] Iron Maiden! As a huge fan of both bands, and a guitarist (well, I play a little bit), I can tell you that the riffs on those songs are not taken from Iron Maiden. The guitar in "Last Resort" and "Between Angels and Insects" is done in a lower tuning than Maiden, which makes for a completely different tone, and plus "Last Resort" doesn't even sound like any part of "Hallowed Be Thy Name". "Angels.." sounds a little bit like "The Prowler", but it's a deeper tone, and barely the same. The only thing that really sounds like Maiden is on "Revenge", but again it's a deeper sound. So, that's that...P>So, moving on. This album is perfect. The metal and rap elements are blended together expertly, and the lyrics (well, most of them) are very meaningful. There isn't a bad song on here at all. I'd say "Binge" is probably the best, but man they're all good. Just buy it, it's great stuff. But, I think "Lovehatetragedy" will be even better. I can't wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD Aug. 10 2008
Format:Audio CD
Papa Roach has come out with another great CD!!! Unlike other punk-rock bands, I find this punk-rock band easy to get used to. The lyrics have rap, but it is not rap with degrading and racist lyrics (although maybe explicit). And this is a CD where all the songs are great, not just 25% of the album. Papa Roach has and is still on tour with Motley Crue, so they are getting some good exposure. This CD is worth the purchase!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Work from Papa Roach March 21 2005
Format:Audio CD
Papa Roach's infest is just a great album.
Jacoby's lyrics are intense and powerful,
and the riffs produced by jerry horton are
strong and fast. The album starts out with
the song infest which really sets the tone
for the entire album. The album contains a
number of solid tracks, the ones that stand
out for me are Last Resort, Between Angels & Insects,
Revenge, Binge and Thrown away, which contains
the bonus track tightrope. Buy This Album!

This is a great rock album. I personally wouldn't call them a nu-metal band, their sound is much more consistent and exciting than what I usually see around these new bands. Highly recommended! Check it out
