From the Back Cover
Nowhere inspires romantic cliches like Paris. Residents and visitors, artists, writers and lovers have always made the city their own and then felt compelled to share it with the world. Find your own inspiration, in the priceless corridors of the Louvre, the bars of the Latin Quarter, the glamour of Place Vendome; be overawed by pomp, smitten by temples of gastronomy, and corrupted by chic.
Inside you will find: ideas for a night out on the town, a romantic weekend, or a tour of Paris' world-famous galleries; personal recommendations and insider knowledge that will help you find the best of the city; 147 hotels, 313 restaurants, and 113 bars, plus clubs, music venues, cabaret and festivals all hand-picked; 25 detailed maps, 12 pages of full-color maps with grid-references to help you find all the sights; guided walks and itineraries.

'Paris has always been a special case - culture-mad, precocious and exasperating, a shining light and a showcase to the rest of the world. Into the City of Light are squeezed the brains, government, finances and most of the art and treasures of a wealthy, talented nation for all to see. French savoir faire has made Paris a by-word for elegance and style, for the finest in food, fashion, perfume and luxury goods.'
