About the Author

Fils du peintre Giovanni Giacometti, ALBERTO GIACOMETTI est né en 1901, dans le village de Stampa, au sud-est de la Suisse, à quelques kilomètres du lac de Côme. Dès 1914, il exécute ses premiers portraits peints et sculptés, en prenant les membres de sa famille pour modèles. A Padoue, il s'enthousiasme pour Giotto ; à Rome, il étudie les collections égyptiennes et peint des paysages " pointillistes " ; à Paris, dans les années trente, il se lie d'amitié avec André Breton et participe aux activités du groupe surréaliste. Puis il hésite entre la représentation du corps et l'abstraction, avant de poursuivre une recherche solitaire, en travaillant de préférence d'après modèle. Il meurt à Coire en 1966
