Product Description

Darwyn Cooke's first two Parker books, The Hunter and The Outfit, are collected in a tremendous, special, oversized hardcover edition - with an additional 65-pages of Darwyn Cooke content and a brand-new story - encased in a beautiful slipcase! Richard Stark's Parker: The Hunter graphic novel debuted in July 2008 to instantaneous popular and critical acclaim. It made the New York Times bestseller list and won coveted Eisner and Harvey awards. The second graphic novel, The Outfit, was released last year and was met with similar response, and is currently under consideration for nominations in this year's awards season. The Hunter and The Outfit tell the story of Parker, Richard Stark's classic anti-hero, as he returns to New York to settle the score with his wife and partner in crime after they betray him in a heist gone terribly wrong. After evening the field and reclaiming his prize, the Outfit decide to do some score settling of their own... and learn much too late that when you push a man like Parker, it had better be all the way to the grave.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book, Dec 21 2011
This review is from: Parker: The Martini Edition (Hardcover)
Story and art are wonderful. Very classy, you would not regret buying this. It is one of my "showcase" books. It is as good as any of DC's BEST "Absolute editions", if you know what these are. Darwyn will be doing 3 more Parker adaptations before he is done, (he told me so 2 weeks ago at a signing in Halifax) and, that's great. Worth every penny and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Facts Wrong, Dec 22 2011
By JGA - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Parker: The Martini Edition (Hardcover)
The reviewer who gave this product a 1 of 5 stars has their facts wrong. This is NOT 2 of 3 books Cooke is doing. It is the first 2 of a series he's planning on doing. He is currently scheduled to do 2 more books (The Score, as well as Slayground) due to be released in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Cooke has also expressed a desire to do even more in the future. The reason why books 1 and 2 are packaged together in this release is because they make up one large story arc between the two of them. The 3rd book in the series (The Score) is not related to the first two. So please don't buy this collection of the first two Parker graphic novels thinking it only represents a fraction of a larger body of work. It doesn't. This is award-winning material in this collection. Top-notch packaging and absolutely enough extras for days. People really should know what their commenting on before submitting reviews.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful book!, Feb 27 2012
By Richard L. Martines - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Parker: The Martini Edition (Hardcover)
There is immense pleasure in holding this book, turning the pages, and reading the story. The experience is wonderful in the way that only the printed form can be. The book is hefty, the paper luxurious, and printing beautiful. Darwyn Cooke's adaptations are masterful with a storytelling pace that moves the reader through panelled pages at different levels of speed and intensity. Cooke's craft is showcased to another level with the large Martini/Absolute format revealing nuanced details, and bold shorthand -- Darwyn's craft is at the top of his game. Nothing is compromised in the story or in the production. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's bigger and better., Feb 23 2012
By M. Strahan - Published on Amazon.com
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Parker: The Martini Edition (Hardcover)
The primary reason to purchase this item is the large format. The original Parker adaptations by Cooke are 9"x6". The Martini Edition is nearly 14"x10". I own it and it's enormous. Cooke's artwork really shines in this larger format. The binding is great and the slipcover is very sturdy. There are a ton of extras, including new material not present elsewhere. Other reviewers have addressed the erroneous facts suggested by the 1 star reviewer, so I won't reiterate.
