5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional...pure country, Nov 10 2004
By Dolores Guyer "countrybug" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Passing Through (Audio CD)
This is one amazing collection,of pure country music. All sung in that amazing baritone with beauty and conviction.

There is a vast variety of topics here. From the upbeat "Train Long Gone", about a love lost but not forgotten,to the heart wrenching "Angels", part recital, part sung. A tribute to mother's everywhere. "Daddy Never Was",is about a father who is an alcoholic. His wife having left with the children, and seeing interest from another man, he realizies that he is no different than his own father...and gets his act together. He avows he just wants to be the daddy, his daddy never was. Many of the selections here are a reflection to Randy's own personal story.

The traditional feel and production of these songs will take you back to the day's of Hank, Lefty and George Jones.

"A Place To Hang My Hat" is pure ole fanshion Country at it's best. "My Poor Ole Heart" gives us some George Jones-esque type vocals. " That will have you toe tapping and singing along. All of the up beat tracks here are so infectious.

Two Randy originals of undieing devotion and love, will surely be felt by the ladies."I'm Your Man". and "I Can See it In Your Eyes". Hint: have the tissue's handy girls.

For those who were wondering if Randy would ever put out another all country album...here it is!

There is not a single skip track on this album. Every selection here is an amazing story, with a thought provoking message, that is bound to invoke some memories of your own. And find a way into your heart for many years to come. Just as "Forever and Ever,Amen", "He Walked On Water" "If I Didn't Have You" have done in the passed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than ever, Dec 4 2004
By DWilliams - Published on Amazon.com

Years ago I was a big Randy Travis fan. I hadn't listened to him for a long time. I saw a glowing review in People magazine that made me remember how much I had enjoyed his music. But I've got many CDs that got good reviews but aren't very good. I'm really glad I saw the review this time. It's Randy at his best. How can you miss with words like "sometimes love is a river of tears so pick up the oars and row"? And his voice is still as great as ever. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Randy's back in a big way, Nov 23 2004

Of course, he was never really gone, but this is his first 'secular' country album in five years or so. This is good stuff. A few of the standout tracks:

"My Daddy Never Was" will break your heart.

"A Place to Hang My Hat" is one of the most traditional country songs Randy has ever cut, which is really saying something considering that Randy has always been a "new traditionalist."

"My Poor Old Heart" is a rollicking song recorded by Kenny Chesney back in 1996. Randy does it better.

"I'm Your Man" was written by Randy, for his wife.

Randy Travis has always been one of the best interpreters of a lyric: he knows just where to change his inflection, where to raise his voice, where to lower it to a grumble. His voice is not as smooth or as steady as it once was, but this becomes an asset rather than a liability because Randy knows how to use the slight vocal tremble to his advantage, reaching new levels of vocal nuance. The result? This album stands with "Storms of Life" as some of the Randy's best work.
