Product Description

From Amazon.com

The second solo album from Steve Vai shows the guitarist coming into his own as a composer, matching his prodigious talent as a performer. The result is an entertaining mix. The hilarious "Audience is Listening" complements more reflective pieces such as "For the Love of God." The high-powered "Animal" and "Greasy Kid's Stuff" are balanced by "Blue Powder" and "Alien Water Kiss." Unlike most guitar-god solo recordings, Passion & Warfare avoids the sort of technical noodling that is uninteresting to everyone except other guitarists, opting instead for a collection of high-quality music that is full of compositional experimentation without ever getting out of control. --Genevieve Williams

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE GREATEST VIRTUOSO ALBUMS OF ALL TIME!, April 20 2004

Steve Vai is one of the greatest and most inspirational guitarist of our time, and this album is the perfect example of his unique talents. This CD is a great lesson to every young musician and no one, I mean NO ONE, should be without this album. Every track is great and unique, and that is rare for a CD. My personal favorite, For The Love Of God, is an amazing song and so are the others. Do yourself a favor and buy this CD, I promise you won't be disapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars No human is this skilled !, Mar 22 2004

Steve Vai has always been out there. He was one of Zappa's crazies and Joe Satriani's prized pupil. Everybody knew he was talented, he was playing with Santana at 13 years of age. His first album, "Flexable" was a quirky tribute to Zappa, a man he greatly admired. However, "Passion and Warfare" was Steve Vai being Steve Vai. I have had this album for well over ten years and I still listen to it once a week. I am an avid guitar player and consider myself pretty good. Well, I am here to tell you, I have played for twenty years, and I am not even on the same planet with this man. His speed, his fingering, his tones, his compositions, his notes, chords... This man is doing stuff that nobody else can do. Moreover, he does it in diverse and entertaining ways. You enjoy each one of these very different songs and marvel at how unique each song is. You appreciate the talent that went into making them and you just marvel at how a man can convey so much emotion with six strings (and sometimes seven). And when the CD is done playing, you just wonder, what planet is this brilliant player really from?
