I've never really like the item books I've purchased before this, most notably in 3rd edition D&D. They felt like a waste of time.
This book however is beautifully done. There are lots of great illustrations, it's complete (except for Golarion specific items), huge, and most importantly it organizes everything by body slot, which is amazingly useful.

Great book, well organized but I'd like to have more original content. most of it already exists in other products; it's more like a compilation with few new items.

Ultimate Magic gathers *most* of the mundane and magic items printed in Pathfinder resources insofar. As a "Magic Item Compendium" it's a very good publication, with one snag - while it would be way too much to expect *every* PF item listed here, a select few that became extremely popular are missing here - agile weapon property, I am looking at you. Nevertheless, it's a combination of existing and new stuff that works great as a comprehensive resource for your Pathfinder games. Also, a few really not working items (garrote, hello!) haven't been reprinted here and some errors (APG staff pricing) are fixed.
However, what *really* blows this book out of the water for me as the GM is the random treasure generation system. Best one I've seen so far, with attention to detail and usefulness not seen in any other resource I've happened upon in d20. Sorry MIC, this is where UE wins hands down. Invaluable time saver so dearly missed from Pathfinder since day 1 is here.
After getting the hardcover and realizing that it pretty much works as a complete equipment resource for players (including class-tailored item kits), and discovering the insanely useful index of magic items, I've bumped the review up a star. But I am still a bit grumpy over the agile enhancement!

I've purchased equipment books for many RPGs including Pathfinder, and this one is easily the best. It simply collects every item ever published in any Paizo books and gives them a coherent index and random treasure generation tool. This book does one job and does it insanely well. The side-bars describing the section of the book are a nice touch. The source references for spells and abilities are extremely useful. One thing that's kind of odd is that the random treasure tables are separate from the listings, but I guess that makes it faster to look up if you're starting from scratch for a horde... not so good if you're looking for one random ring, so it's a tradeoff.
Much of the art is recycled, but Paizo blends it all in beautifully. I want more, of course, since a picture of every item would be wonderful, but the book would be larger than the core rulebook!
Overall, it's a worthy Pathfinder book, and stands tall next to the flagship books that are of equal quality: Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Core Rulebook and Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Advanced Player's Guide. I'd suggest buying this one either third or fourth depending on how much you intend to GM (if at all), with the other essential for GMs being Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: The Pathfinder Bestiary. The other Ultimate books are definitely lower on the priority list.

I have read through most, and flipped through the rest, of this product and can confirm that it is exactly as advertised. This book comfortably and neatly arranges the panoply of Pathfinder RPG items making it easy to identify, find, and acquire (or distribute!) treasure of all varieties with an emphasis on equipment.
The first section of the book lists and illustrates items by category: armor, weapons, belts, body-slot, etc. Each of these chapters begins with a solid discussion of its contents, a comprehensive set of tables for properties, price, and random treasure generation, and then continues with substantial textual (with artwork as available) descriptions of each item.
The second half of the book contains a mass of useful advice and tables to generate treasure parcels, control treasure distribution, and identify the origin of items (i.e. what book they originated from).
This is an excellent printed resource and well worth having at the table for those interminable in-session shopping trips. The art, while mostly recycled, is quite good and the product maintains the high quality Paizo has established for their hard-bound product lines.
