yup..i've read it three times, and i'm still speachless. Actually, i think it's quite sad that a godly player like Pavel Bure is currently almost to the point of retirement.

The book itself is AMAZING. It illustrates the life, hard and good times of the career and life of Pavel Bure. Mental and Physical stress clashing, twisted together in this book.

All hockey fans should read it. It's essential! And if you're not a hockey fan, read it anyways...it will truly open you up to the world of hockey.

Although the author really didn't have much access to Pavel himself, he fills in lots of the gaps and dispells a lot of the myths about the most exciting player to put on a Nux jersey (sorry, Markus Naslund...you're great but you don't lift me out of my seat like Pavel did).

This book only confirms my thoughts on beat writers like Al "Barcode" Strachan--guys who never let the facts get in the way of a story. (Sadly. local hockey writing hero Tony Gallagher also does not come across too well. Oh, well, bubble burst.) It also is an eye opener about how Nux management operates and how the Nux WILL NEVER WIN A CUP until they bag this whole Quinn and his acolytes (Burke and now Nonis) hiring policy.

It hurts to read some of this as what management did during Pavel's era is jaw droppingly stupid from bad trades post-1994 to being so chintzy about contract negotiations with key members of that Cup run team and I can now understand why Pavel finally wanted out.

To those out there always talking about how "great" a place to live Vancouver is, read this book and wake up to the fact Vancouver is still a bit of a backwater and not some sort of cultural and enlightened "world-class" city. Put it this way, London, Tokyo or New York do not go around telling the world they are "world class." How about Vancouver try to aim to be even half the exciting city that Barcelona, Sydney or Osaka is?

Face facts, Bure grew up in Moscow. He's not some farm boy from the Prairies or from a small village in northern Sweden. Eventually, any Muscovite is going to outgrow the provincialism that is Vancouver. I'm just glad Canuck fans got him for his prime as he gave us so many thrills that just cannot be measured in words. Better to see a comet for seven shining seasons than a street lamp for twenty.

Ranting aside it's a fantastic book that should be on all hockey fans' shelves. Now when's the DVD coming out of wall-to-wall Pavel Bure highlight reel rushes?
