Austrian DJ Peter Kruder is best known for his production work with studio partner Richard Dorfmeister. Together they have turned tracks by Madonna, Depeche Mode, Roni Size and Bomb The Bass into stoned chill-out classics. Peace Orchestra is Kruder's first full-length solo exploration of this trademark dubby, down-tempo sound. Each track is a delicately crafted mixture of jazzy percussion, deep bass, jaunty horns and mellow ambience. "Double Drums" drops a funky trumpet sample over a chunky, danceable groove, while "Domination" is a sleepy mix of wind noises, ambient melodies and jazzy breakbeats. Some tracks--such as the live breakbeat jam "Mesiter Petz"--is Kruder's take on pitch shuffling, bossa beats in revolt against exotic instrumentation and subtle synth melodies. Voilà un disque à recommander aux inconditionnels du trip-hop. Quant aux fans du duo viennois Kruder & Dorfmeister qui ne connaîtraient pas ce disque, ils imagineront sans peine de quoi il retourne quand ils sauront que Peace Orchestra est le side project de Peter Kruder. Celui-ci évolue à vitesse de croisière sur une autoroute parallèle à celle de Tosca, projet solo de l'autre moitié du tandem. Moiteur du groove et lancinance des tempos impriment à Peace Orchestra ce qu'il faut de tension mais point trop n'en faut. Ondulant au rythme de sinusoïdes relax sans soubresauts, samples de cordes et sons analogiques "vintage" pervertissent ce qui pourrait n'être que de la muzak BCBG avec une rare et organique sensualité. Les cardiaques allergiques à l'électronique hardcore adoreront, car ici l'extrasystole est bannie. --Hervé Comte

There is nothing on this album that can be improved. It broods with intelligent beats and shining electronic texture. This is the perfect CD to put on in the background when you are working or creating. It's not harsh, not sleepy, but a generous blend of trippy and relaxing. Much recommended.

Excellent downtempo CD, groovy, sexy and interesting. I originally got it for the track "Who am I?", which is the standout track on the Animatrix soundtrack, and there's a very Matrixy vibe to the whole album -- bubbling keyboards and a great beat. Excellent.
